Composed of eminent citizens appointed by the Governor from the communities in the service area of the Institute, the Insti- tute Council consults With and advises the Director. Under the overall approval of the State University Trustees, the re- sponsibilities of the Council touch upon such phases of the operation of the Insti- tute as care, custody and management of lands, buildings and equipmentg review of the annual budgetg development of atl- visory citizens committeesg appraisal and improvement of the courses of studyg su- pervision of student housing and safetyg review of all major plans for the operation of the Institute. The Council also plays an effective role in reflecting community opinion in the concerns of the Institute, and in interpreting the Institute to the community.
