' --rr tseasi Freshmen l-listorq The farmer's life for mefn' With this thought strongly imbedded in our minds We gazed with awe and wonder for the hrst time across the campus of the school. It was, indeed, a strange and delightful sight to us city boys, a good many of whom had never as much as seen a live pig. Four and twenty strong came We, from all parts of the continent-from far-off Canada to sunny Mexico. Four and twenty different shapes, sizes, lengths, breadths, soon moulded into four and twenty real Aggies. It is with deepest regret that we must say that there are no female students in our class. Being Freshmen, we are used to disappointments. The Class of '26 looks back on thepast year with a great deal of satisfac- tion. Of our athletic prestige we are especially proud. Ten of our yearlings made the football squad. They were O'Shaughnessy, Dowd, Hopf, MacNeill, Wehle, Wickers, Kriska, Weinberg, Smeltzer and Garcia. While none have made the Varsity basketball squad, we have, nevertheless, started a Fresh- man team, which has been a great attraction to Varsity games, and its potentialities speak well for Nyssa's future Varsity team. And now with a mingled feeling of dismay, surprise, and humiliation, we think back with a smile, to the initiations. So well was it inflicted, that for all times to come shall we remember our Alma Mater through it. Per- haps the less said about it the better. We have learned how sticky molasses can be, and how greasy pigs can be. Some of us are still looking for our shoes. We shall enjoy initiations much better next year when we are the inflictors rather than the recipients. We elected our class officers as follows: O'Shaughnessy, president: Dowd, vice-president, Hatter, secretary, and Meyers, treasurer. Under their able leadership we acquired the true Aggie spirit at an early date, and supported our upper classmen most loyally. To the Class of '24 it is with the deepest regret that we must say fare- well. To us poor, lowly Freshmen, you shall always stand as a model of a true, snappy Aggie class. We will be glad to hear from you about your successes in the future. We hope it shall be au revoir rather than adieu.', Goodbye and good luck, and may God be with you. he Best Hou Have IN hen the game has at last been finished And the echoes of cheering have died IfVhen the stands are all silent and empty Wliere the thousands have kidded and guyed Wlieii shadows are swiftly approaching And silence has followed the fray VVhile the field lies bare In the crimson glare At the close of a sunlit day- The score doesn t so much matter Though the loser be sorely flayed' There are other affairs to consider Than the count that the victor made. Did you play with a zeal and courage? Did you strive with a cool head, lad? Did you show them, too, That you're game clear through- Did you give them the best you had? If you did, then rest on your laurels, And know that with you 'tis well, Though you may not play like a master, Nor fight like a fiend of hell, And naught will be set against you In the great and final score, ' When the game is won, And the fight is done, And we rest forever more. : I .
