When this Year Book is ready for inspection, the Senior Class will, itself, be about ready for the Final Inspection and Accounting before it crosses that threshold known as graduation into the World of It's Dreams. .19 2.4 , NYS SA, I Not all of these dreams will come true. That is known at the outset. But that constitutes no argument against the dreaming of dreams. For no man goes further or higher than the reaches of his dreams. No one is better than he hopes to be and no great deed was greatly done by the man who sees in Tomorrow only the mirror of Yesterday. You have been learning of cows, and crops, and pigs and bees, and birds that lay, and apples both red and green, and good roads, and farm leases, and cost accounts and kindred things. ,At times it may have seemed that these were the major objectives of your schooling and the primary aim of those from whom you learned. It is so only in a narrow sense. The world needs men who know of such things. To have failed to equip you properly in this regard would be failure, indeed, on the part of the school. But, the world also needs men who are vastly more than machines for the production of wheat and hams and pure bred stock. A It needs men who measure up to the possibilities and responsibilities of citizenship, who look to the heart and not to the skin, who are tolerate and mindful of the views of other men, who recognize that opportunity means not greater license but greater service. Yes, country life needs good farmers. I hope you will be such. But, it needs good men more, men who recognize no distinction between town and country, men who acknowledge and apply a higher standard of measurement than the dollar. For the finer things of life cannot be counted by so crude and artificial a unit. Who shall say what integrity and honor and self-respect and the respect of others and moral fiber and the spirit of service are worth? If the institution which you now leave has failed by precept and example to throw into bold relief these things, it has made a mockery of life. That, no school has a right to do. What of the future? I do not know. I know this, that so long as the world wants anything, unless mankind changes greatly, it will want, food. Your line of goods will never go out of style. You will always have a job to keep you busy. I am wishing for you a reasonable degree of success and a not unreasonable amount of failures-the joy of hard work and the satisfac- tion of real attainment. And remember that you are the school, that it is and it will be the school of your dreams. H. B. KNAPP. . az 7 - 4:-.--.
