The cheerleaders broke in football season with a rollicking yell. Everyone seemed to enjoy the festivities immensely, and each person went home with hopes of a victorious season. Union Parish Fair - '59 At the Union Parish Fair, held October 21-24, every school in the parish was invited to enter an exhibit. The theme of this one was the Golden Anniversary of Farmerville High School. This booth received eighty-five points, which was the highest number of points received by any school. The theme was of interest to every- one. Bonfire A burst of flames came to rest atop the brilliant face of Miss Flame, Carol Joyce Waller. Joe Dexter Albritton, co-captain of the football team, crowned her. A shining spark shed its light from atop the head of Miss Spark, Christene Holloway. Harry Farrar, co-captain, crowned her. The bonfire sparked the spirit of every fan of the Farmerville Farmers. Majorettes Mildred Neal, Sharron Eldred, and Pat Robison presented a dance routine while Miss Flame and Miss Spark looked on. fubksiwvugivm 1

All the teachers of Union Parish attended a banquet given for them this year by Farmer ville High School. This is an annual affair and is sponsored by a different school each year. twat, yt UPTA Banquet This group of girls served the teachers and seemed to have a grand time doing so. They are fl to rj Brenda Anderson, Judy Greer, Imogene Compton, Christene Hol- loway, Jean Lamprich, Carolyn Glass, Linda Black, and Gay Mitchell. Mr. I. B. Robertson, Assistant Superintend- ent of Elementary and Secondary Education, was the principal speaker at the banquet. His speech concerned teacher welfare laws. Homecoming Attractions The royal Homecoming court poses before the parade. Reigning as queen is Christene Hollo- way, centerg her subjects are Carol Ann Thomas, Kay Allen, Sharon Odom, and lean Lamprich. Mr. Clinton crowns Queen Christene at a special assembly. The originally-planned crowning ceremonies were cancelled due to inclement weather.' The Carolettes, baton students of Carol Joyce Waller, performed in the afternoon parade and during the half-time activities on thc gridiron that night. Left to right they are: Elizabeth Phillips, Mary John Hallman, La Faye Clement Beth Upshaw, Jane Downs, Jean Washam, Col- leen Carpenter, Amy Strother, Kay Galloway, Patti Hartman, Virginia Kay Albritton, and Vickie Kennedy. These twirlers, taught by Mrs. Frank Wilson, also took part in the spectacular Homecoming clay and night activities. Reading left to right are: Peggy Phillips, Annette O'Brien, Ann Aulds, Johnette Edwards, Nonie Edwards, Jan Farrar, and Tuffy Fields.
