77-78 varsity wrestling team members are Row 1: K. Westby, M. Payne, D. Seeb, S. Savageau, D. Fellbaum, M. Zimmerman. Row 2: T. jones, C. Stensgard, M. Lordeman, Coach jerry Larson, D. Lothspeich, K. Condon and B. Peterson. Not pictured W. King. junior 126-pounder Dean Fellbaum slips in a tight half in an effort to pin his opponent, which he succeeded in doing. This was FeIlbaum's first year on the varsity team. Wrestlers Capture EDC, jerry Larson's Reign Ends What started out to be a spectacular season ended in a disappointing finish for the Bruin varsity wrestling team Capturing EDC and posting a 10-3 won-loss record, the Bruins suffered a letdown at both region and state. Senior standout Tim jones led South with a 28-4 record 1 and second place finish at state. jones was selected MVP by his teammates at the end of the seasonfduring a memorable athletic banquet. It was at the annual banquet that Coach jerry Larson, a veteran of 11 years, announced hisfiretire- ment. His reason was that he wanted to devote more time to a -family farm. Larsonf s accom-1, ,.i. plishments here at South in- cluded a 100-34-2 coaching re- cord and 17 tourneys won. Also at the banquet, seniors Curt Stensgard and Mike Lordeman received the Gary Stensgard Teammaker Award. Stensgard was 23-6 for the year while Lordeman posted a 24-6 record. Sophomore War- ren King was named most im- proved. Even though we had a letdown at the region and state meet, we had a very special season. We won in con- ference and had a 10-3 won-loss record, commented Coach Larson on the Bruin varsity's up and down 1977-78 wrestling season. eighty-five
