D. Norman Named MVP For 1977-78 jV Team Coached by jerry Laney, South's junior Varsity Boys basketball team finished the 1977-78 season with a more than respectable 11-8 won-lost record. The team had to get along without second 7 year coach Laney for the first part of the season for medical reasons. Filling in for the first four games' ' was Doug Gudmunson, the assistant sophomore coach. Laney re- turned to coach the Bruins to a 70-54jShellacking1of Shanley. f South beat the Deacons again later on in the seson 60-52 Coming off to a rather slow start, the Bruins ended their seasonfwith a flourish, winning seven out of nine games. W A highlight of the season was a seven game winning streak 7 which was ended when james- town defeated the Bruins on South's court. South had double wins over three schools, Shanley, Red River and West , Fargo. Scores for the Red 1 River wins were 52-41 and 66-50 while West Fargo was defeated twice 53-49 and 56-49. Dave Norman had the most field goals and total points for the season, even having a 10016 free throw accuracy. Sophomore Ken Sanford had the most offensive and defensive rebounds.
