The Bruins opened against Moorhead and stunned them 7-5 with excellent defense. Three straight losses at the hands of Grand Rapids lMn1, Jamestown and Shanley hin- dered the team's spirits, yet they were able to bounce back with four wins in a row. Both Grand Forks teams, Wahpeton and West Fargo were vic- tims ofthe winning streak. Coach Dale Hertel felt the jamestown loss was a big disappointment for him and the team and that Wahpeton was their high point for the year. The Most Valuable Player award was given to senior Dan jahnke. jahnke was the lead- ing receiver for the Bruins as well as a top-notch defensive back. Receiving Most Valuable Defensivelljneman was Ward Muscatell, a junior. Senior Mike Lordeman was named Most Valuable Offensive Line- man, while senior Tim jahner was picked as the Most Valu- able Offensive Back was junior Kurt Stellrecht, jahnke, Jah- ner and Tim Pavek were named honorary captains. Will Schafer and Don Dolezal are next year's co-captains. I expect the sophomores to contribute to a successful varsity squad next year, commented first- year coach Dennis Kaipin. Coached under john Kelly and Kalpin the sophomores compiled a very impressive 6-2 season record.
