Bobby socks, bubble gum and the band Sir Duke and the Lords of the Lips dominated the week of March 13-17 as Student Council sponsored 50's Week. Monday through Wednesday spirit chains were sold in the commons, and at the pep fest the sophomores proved victorious. On Tuesday evening South High students donned roller skates 'md took over Skateland for an evening of fast ex- Tuesday was the night for rollerskating for the South students. The council rented Skateland for the two hour session so students could try a 50's pastime. citement. 50's Week concluded on Friday with a pep fest to set the mood for the boggie with Cry- stal Sunshine . Contests such as bubble gum blowing, hula hooping, licorice eating and a Richie Cunningham contest were held, the last won by Steve Flannery. Jordheim, Clint Emerson, Greg Cummings and his date enioy Argus at the dance. The 1978 prom was held on Saturday, April 15 at the South High gym. Grand Illusion , a takeoff on the album of the same name by the rock group Styx, was named as this year's theme. Different songs off the album were used for different as- pects of the dance. Argus played at the dance which lasted from 9 to 12. Ticket prices were set at five dollars per couple for this year's prom. X As in past years, the junior classes from the two schools were in charge of prom. Heading it were junior class presidents Dave Geske and Brad Belk from North and South Highs respectively. Many students commented on the fine job of decorating, with a water fountain in the middle of the dance floor being an attraction. Also, the weather was nice, which is a rarity for the spring prom occasion.
