Krieg Named Most Valuable For Second Straight Year A dismal eleventh place finish in state capped off what seemed to be a disap- pointing year for the 1976 cross country team. South was hurt by many injuries dur- ing the season and only nine people finish- ed the full season. This year's harriers had a new coach in Mr. Dave Kampa. Kampa replaced Gelaine Orvik who left the post to coach ninth grade football. It was the second new coach in as many years. For the second straight year, senior Jed Krieg received the Most Valuable Runner, but the injury-ridden Krieg could not better last year's state second. No runners placed in the state top ten. Charles Westerholm was the Most lm- proved runner as well as running the most miles. Westerholm ran a distance equal to that between Fargo and Des Moines. Matt Torgerson was the Most Dedicated runner and second in miles. Dave Kampa ninety Senior Jed Krieg runs in the Shanley Invitational which was held at Fargo's Lindenwood Park where all of South's home meets were held during the year. Senior Charles Westerholm makes his move from the middle of the pack in the Shanley Invitational which included all the area schools. The meet is the first of the season. 5P iI.'lIT1u llin7x. IL6
