Underclassmen Lead Swimmers To Third Place In State Meet Coach Jan Cossette's girls swim team was undergoing what she called a build- ing year because of the large number of underclassmen partici- pating. After taking third place in state with an accumulated 154 points, Cossette stated, L'They really did well this year. lThey are a building team and we will be strong next year. Two individual and the 400 yard relay team took seconds in state. Cathy Camp was second in diving with 344.10 points and Amy Krieg placed second in the 500 yard freestyle in 5:53.0. Relay team members were Patty Miller, Jacque Hol- land, Pat Cole and Krieg. Team awards were most dedicated, Carla Kenwardg most spirit, Jackie Nessg most improved, Pat Cole, and most valuable, Amy Krieg. Krieg set records in the 200 yard free- style, the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle. Cole set the record in the 100 butterfly while the 400 freestyle relay set a record. Jan Cossette eighty-eight Sophomore Amy Krieg swims her last leg of the 200 yard freestyle. Amy set records in the 200 yard freestyle, the 200 IM and the 500 yard freestyle events during the year.

An unidentified Moorhead football player attempts to gain some valuable first down is surrounded by South defenders as he yardage. Moorhead won the game 26-7. Fullback Paul Honl carries the ball for a four Moorhead defenders. Honl was one few yards as he is sandwiched between of the sophomores' leading rushers. K Sophomores, Freshmen Have 3-4-1, 1-7 Records Respectively Plagued by inconsistent play, the sophomore football team had an up and down season with a 3-4-1 record. Coached by John Kelley and Lynn Forde, the sopho- more squad started out their season with losses to North and Moorhead but then had a three game win- ning streak before tying Shanley 6-6. With two games to go the sophomores suf- fered a disappointing loss to West Fargo and ended their season with a second loss to North. Named the most valuable lineman at the end of the year was Don Dolezal while Kurt Stellrecht was voted most valuable back for the sophs. The freshman squad under Coach Gelaine Orvik finished their season with a 1-7 record. Although having a disappoint- ing season, Mr. Orvik felt that a good attitude was displayed by the whole team.
