Special Courses Grow at South Personalized Education, under Don Smaltz, had 42 students enrolled in the growing program. Instructors for the courses were Melinda Dicola, Gordon Hegre, Don Smaltz, Priscilla Strutz, Pam Swanson and Gloria Thompson. Jet, run by Roger Olgaard, gave seniors the opportunity to see if they would enjoy being a teacher. There are 15 students from South involved in the local program. The students teach 1-12 graders. They get V2 credit for the course. The school had 20 students now directly involved in the Fargo- Moorhead Community Service Pro- gram. Students do a large variety of volunteer work. Some help in the elementary schools as tutors while others do volunteer work in the area hospitals and elderly homes. Qualified students earn from V2 to one full credit .per year. 4 W.. I7 if X 4. Somcthing's Always Happening Student Life-something South has had a lot of during the past ten years. Activities have changed, things have been added or taken away, but always something has been happening. South's first year of existence-1967-68, saw students celebrating with a senior swim party, Sadie Hawkins, a Norwegian Independence Day, All-night party and a faculty-sponsored party to honor the graduating class. Georgia Goff reigned over Homecoming festivities which included the game and the Garden of Eden dance at which the Unbelievable Uglies played. Fall Festival, a carnival-like project of South's various clubs success. Moonlight and Roses the 1968 prom and Charley's 1968. The year and the first couples prom April 29. Pep Club won the snow sculpture contest and shared first with National Honor Society in the tricycle race. The first annual snow king and queen were electediDick Rohla and Ronda Iversl and Christopher played at the dance on Friday, April 21. South faculty members played the Harlem Diplomats in a benefit game. The game ended in a 71-71 tie after the faculty was given 30 points handicap at halftime.
