Schcvcck Becomes Coordinator The Industrial Education De- partment introduced a Trades and Industrial Coordinator to South. Ed Scheveck filled the new post which was developed to serve both North and South. The idea was to give trade students the chance to gain employment with a company in a related field. Scheveck said it would Hhelp students to better themselvesl' and also present them an opportunity toifind how the real work-a-day world works. Prescriptive Drawing was a new first semester class offered to upperclassmen. Instructor John Torgerson described it as a con- densed General Drafting class . Students who took Architectural Drafting 2 designed and construct- ed a yearly model house project. South's music staff was enlarg- ed by one this year. Richard Colod- ney directed the Symphonic and Concert bands, junior and sopho- more respectively. Stuart Uggen, in his second year of teaching at South, was the director of South's Varsity Band and Wind Ensemble. 'af I l A . lr my C , I - f xy : fu Richard Colodney Gene Okerlund Tim Running Band Chorus Orchestra Wood crman Highlights Year During the course of the school year each of the bands performed in at least three concerts along with South's orchestra and choir. Many things were accomplished by the four bands during the year. At Christmas the bands per- formed in area elementary schools while later on local instrumental- ists were brought in to perform at concerts. The highlight of the year was in March when Woody Her- man and the Young Thundering Herd gave a special concert at South. The last event was a pops concert in May for all bands.
