Classes Elect Student President You can only really learn more about politics by becoming invol- ved with politics, stated Mr. Jim Moen, government teacher. His semester-long classes held mock governmental elections, complete with four candidates and four pol- itical parties. The elections cov- Charles Cochran Dennis Hogan Social Studies Health ered three weeks of class periods, and went through two phases of is- sues. Some of these issues includ- ed abortion, the legalization of marijuana and busing. As for this new way of getting politics across to high school students, Mr. Moen said, lt,s something different. Larry Holzer Gloria Johnson Social Studies Social Studies Sociology and psychology clas- ses spent time over the 1976-77 school year taking various field trips and hosting speakers. The classes took one bus to the State Hospital in Fergus Falls, and toured the hospital's facilities. The classes also heard speakers. Cynthia Lee Don Lindberg Social Studies Social Studies Dave Cleaver gives a campaign speech during classes held a mock election in which everyone wrote their campaign slogans and gave Mr. Moen s government class.
