Ancient inan is known hy his artiliacts. Our own civilization is noted for its Ngadgetsu. When songs and stories and languages have heen lost, handicraft in some form is always left lvehind. Ancient man more often exf pressed himself in concrete l'its of handiwork than in alastraet poems and liallads. Applied art is one of the most useful forms of selffexpression. Courses in art, wood' working, metalwork, mechanical drawing, printing, cooking, and sewing are olliered. A girl can design a dress, decorate the material, and then sew it. Wheii completed, she wears an attractive sample of her initiative, sense of color and design, and skill. Beauty is only skin deep. Woiiieii are judged hy the way in which they dress and feed themselves and their families. A man, too. must lfe able to design and produce attractive things in Wood and metal for his home. With the knowledge gained in manual training, many a man has made his home a trihute to his artistic skill with wood and metal. Iv1an's ahility to adapt himself to his environment and to adapt his environment to himself depends to a great extent upon his skill at handicraft. Moderii times call for draftsmen, mechanics, dieticians, Welders, and other types of skilled workers and technicians. The industrial arts department is expanding rapidly at the present time. Social Sciences NNI SN To the glory that was Greece, and the grandeur that was Rome we owe the reginf nings of our knowledge and culture. A study of these developments is received in World History. After a course in Moderii History, it is easy for one to understand the comparison between Napoleon and Hitler which is often times mentioned. As yet Hitler's Wziterloo has IiOt heen reached but perhaps it will be in the near future. So that one may hetter understand his privileges and ohligations as a part ofa great democracy, a course in Civics is offered. It is your duty to have a knowledge of your government and to fulfill your place in it if democracies are to remain supreme after this war. We can neither hope to discuss the causes of the present war or the peace to come later unless we have some knowledge of Economics and Sociology. It is an economic war that is being fought now. Such wars in the future can he eliminated only by social and economic changes in some parts of the world. Qur studies in history are only fundamental facts which are preparing us for our part in the future world --'whether it he peaceful or warring. Trying to keep pace with the map of Europe. ii' .
