June, 1943 Dear Graduates of June 1943: A class marked by such divers- ity of talent, such scholastic attain- ments, such ability to work together for a common goal, as yours is, has even now claims to distinction. For the future, the faculty of Far Rock- away High School and your fellow students expect great things of you. It will not surprise us to hear that in the realms of orchestral, instru- mental and vocal music, of tennis and swimming, of scientific research and study, young men and women from your group will win fame for themselves and for their school. We wish and expect the best of you and for you. But you have other claims to en- viable recognition. Many of you are members of Arista, others have proved efficient leaders in school or- ganizations, all of you, your grade adviser declares, have worked well together. You have been a happy class, have enjoyed your high school associations, have appreciated what the school has tried to do for you, have got something of what we have tried to give. This in itself is success in terms of every-day living. One of the chief aims of an edu- cation is to help one out of a diffi- culty. When we come to a fork in the road, the training in judgment and reasoning, the foundations of character, the sense of values, personal and ethical, which we have built for ourselves during years of schooling, should enable us to take the right turning, not only for our- selves but for the group, the com- munity in which we live and serve. May the foundation in knowledge, in high purpose, in integrity of character that you have built in your years at Far Rockaway High School guide each of you to the right turning when you come to the fork in the road! May you be true to the best in yourself and in your heritage as an American citizen! Very sincerely yours, MONICA D. RYAN, Principal 7
