For youth is the time of anticipating the future! In its urgent longing youth's big temp- tation is to squander tomorrow today. Tomorrow is for those who prepare for it today. Our attitudes, habits, character, personality--what we will be in the future--are being formed in our lives today, As we look at America with the thousands of schools, colleges, and universities scat- tered across the land, we are tempted to feel that surely our young people are being prepared and equipped for life better than anywhere else in the world. Surely to- morrow will be bright, prosperous, and happy! But far too many young people launch into life in a carefree manner. Although the youth are seemingly prepared as far as education and material equipment are concerned, they are without the mature minds needed to meet the responsibilities of the future. Unfolding before us is a glorious tomorrow of opportunity and blessings that eventuates in an eternity without regretg however, our dreams can be realized only by the development of sound well controlled minds, bodies, and emotions of today's ever-progressing youth. Then go hack and rad some parts of it tlnrutily. Remember as you graduate, that some of you are nearing the close of the first stage ofyourlife--thepreparatory stage.Asyou go throng: the real Ucbitg' stage and finally enter what might be called the teaching or helping others stage, remember that each generation ofpeoplehas its own ideas. idrals. hops, and aspirations. lf several decades from now you should happen to look back- at this page, remember that wehave triedtoprqaare you as best we lmow how during the fomiative period of your lives, but in the final analysis a man's education is his own responsibility. ln the future, therefore. you will deserve the credit br whatever success you are able to achieveg likewise in all probability the failures that are thrown your way totestyour menle. when you fail, do not try to shift th: blame to your school, your society, or some other person. But face the issues squarely, solve them, and make the failures become stepping-stones on ymir :mi tosuecess. Above all else, as you grow older, do not, as Dr. G. Z. F. Bereday characterizes it, grow old hating the young because you are growing old ani dry are young! Each generation in adynamicsociety sudtas ours is somewhat different from each preceding one and has an opportunity to try to shape sociay is its ideals. Your opportunity is just now beginning. Make the most of it and endeavor to have your future days be such that older persons will be proud ofyou ami dnt posteritywill think you created the good old days. Very Sincerely. ,MIUK 1 ROBERT W.
