In Retrospect The year nlneteen hundred forty s1x marked our entrance mto high school Twenty one 1ns1gn1f1cant freshmen we were called Even though we were just l1ttle freshmen our class was well represented ln the athletic fxeld Returmng to school ln the fall of nmeteen hundred forty seven we found that our number had been reduced to fourteen Soon after organlzlng under the leadershrp of Mrs Yocum we declded upon the xdea of havxng bake sales as a means of makxng money This proved very successful in enlargmg our treasury In October of that year we had our flrst roller skatlng party We also sponsored a party later ln the year ln honor of the senlors In our Englrsh class we studied forms of debates and then put on a morn mgs assembly ln the form of a formal debate The subject for debate was the consolxdatxon of schools It was a most 1nterest1ng program so xnterestmg tn fact that each other class was afrald to compete w1th ours and refused to put on an assembly Another honor bestowed upon us was that we were chosen as the class to pubhsh the flrst school newspaper the Valley Breeze We rated a co editor Patsy Cowan a feature wrlter Betty Shearer and a buslness manager Nancy Rodenxser Our reporter and clrculatlon manager were anlce Brlcker and ames Rohrabaugh The popular colum1st was our dxrt dauber Loulse Shoop Our four boys were the In the first dramatrc production four from our class were selected for lmportant roles We had representatlves ln FOICUCIC as well Besldes our academtc and dramatxc ab1l1t1es we had athletes such as Wyane St Clair who played on the regular baseball team wh1le Patsy Cowan anlce Bricker and Louise Shoop played on the soft ball team When we returned to school ln nrneteen hundred forty elght for our olly unlor year we found that our class had decreased once more to twelve members The frrst act1v1ty of the year was to carry on the custom of servxng school lunches During the year we sponsored several dances We also sold Chrlstmas cards as a means of maklng money In May we honored the Senior Class with a semi formal banquet held at the College Inn Chambersburg This year T949 50 we have been very busy planmng our yearbook and bu1ld1ng up our coffer for our b1g jaunt to New York C1ty To help us we held a fest1val ln September sponsored a flay entitled The Sunshme Twins and have served school lunches on various Fr1 ays throughout the year In partlng we regret breaking the bonds of frlendshxp that we have had for the past twelve years There IS a mrxed sensatxon of sorrow and joy but we can not help feel1ng a b1t overwhelmed as the thrllls and aspxratlons of graduatton finally become a reallty Page 14 il - u 1 a o ,, - I I , . The Dramatic Club, under the supervision of Mrs Shoo , is not a matter of all work and no play There is never a dull moment when the schedule includes moonlight hikes, dances, and dinners, but topping it all is the Bl Night That is the night when the cast, with crossed fingers and high hopes, Execs the audience as one Page 26 0 r-ry, A ' ' 7' - . if 1 In t' .A w 15' J ,, , .. .v 'X ' - ui 1,f'1' ,Y -. v ' , I M . ., I ...
