I spend much of my life waiting for an event only to realize later that life went on during my period of waiting. It is distressing to discover that the coming of the future sometimes brings with it, the burial of the past. These laments, I realize, are as common as they are time- worn. Instead of complaining, I have tried to capture my life in memory, saving my memories, like newspaper clippings. Unfor- tunately, these moments are of- ten misplaced. When I attempt to remember a period of my life, I often can only find a torn scrap of memory, a mere detail through which I may have to cat- egorize the time. The words “High School days” do not bring my mind to a list of adjectives with which I might de- scribe the past four years. In- stead, I remember events, minor though they may be. I vividly re- call the time I slipped going up the stairs between cafeteria A and B. This was no ordinary clumsy move on my part, for while I was sliding down about three steps, my books and papers were being dropped and scat- tered all behind me. As I stooped to retrieve my books in the least conspicuous way possible, I heard applause from the seniors surrounding the stairway. The fact that I may have made some- body laugh at the time, really did not console me. The words “independence” do not evoke from me similar words ' such as freedom and responsibil-. ity. Instead, I think of the first, time one of my friends drove me somewhere. We went to the mov- ' ies in his dilapitated car which held two jugs of water in the back because the radiator frequently overheated. We met other people there and I joked about my friend’s driving. The night was not extraordinary but it meant something to me then, as it does now. H- “A Poet ' s Cause J. W-W J. W-W I spent a happy moment talking to myself talking to you about you I knew just what to say. Although the words came out wrong anyway and so I blush. Hidden colors of romantic feeling of racing hearts slowly believing I saw your smile. “Dream with me, I said, of rainny days just lying in bed God how sex implores one!” I didn’t mean that but it sounded nice so nice that I said it twice and once again. “Marriage is a second emotion first comes love then devotion and life . . A stutter, a twist of the tongue romance could be so much more than for and relieving. My hairline is slowly receeding. “Oh barf an old gran daddy who looked so slightly caddy. And you there - wide eyes slow me down . . . catch me and spin me around like a helicopter right off the ground and I land without a sound and whatever . . .
