For the class of 1959, there are many firsts; however, to future classes you will be known as the first graduating class from our fine new high school building. There will be thousands of boys and girls, most yet unborn, who will grace the same graduation platform in the next 50-75 years. It has been my good fortune to know most of you since you began your kindergarten program in September, 1946. I hope that, through the thirteen years which followed, we have given you some insight into the problems which you will face in the future. I hope that, most of all, we have instilled a feeling of understanding, tolerance, and love for your fellow human beings. May the future bring nothing but good luck and happiness to each of you. b Hoard of Education STANDING: Mr. Cauthers, Dr. Kove, Mr. Walter, Dr. Elias. To be able to perform more proficiently what we have done before. These two seemingly intangible terms precisely express the reasons why we the students of Fallsburgh Central High School are so grateful for the opportunities that have been presented us as a result of the construc- tion of this new building. Visitors who have toured the new school, marvel at the spacious classrooms and other modern fa- cilities; however, it is only those of us, living in the building from day to day who can fully appre- ciate its advantages w'hich were limited or often non-existent under previous conditions. It is needless to say that the reaction of the student body to the new school is one of boundless enthusiasm: From the athlete who because of a fully equipped and adequate gymnasium takes increased pride in his activity, to the Thespian who has found new confidence secure in the knowl- edge, that good acoustics will enable his performance to be conveyed to the entire audience, from the instrumentalist who can duplicate the privacy of his own home in a sound proof practice room, to the science student who suddenly discovers that Chemistry can be fascinating particularly when he can witness the results of his own experiments. From the boys and girls who emerge from the pool locker rooms delighted that they have partici- pated in a new activity which many of them had never before explored, to the shop student who be- cause of improved facilities will be greatly aided in what may very well become his future voca- tion. From the English and Social Studies student who realizes the immeasurable value of a confer- ence room for quiet research, to ever)’ student who has utilized what is considered to be one of the finest school libraries in the area. From the entire student body who eat their lunches in what we like to call the dining rooms instead of the cafeterias, to every single student who is absorbing knowledge in an atmosphere which is stimulating and conducive. Yes, we are grateful for the opportunities that we have been so fortunate to possess this year, but this type of gratitude cannot be expressed simply in a few paragraphs. It is only by constantly striving to elevate our standards as scholars and citizens of the school and community that we can truly say thanks to all of you who have made this structure possible. ■ “Plastic Surgery” Barf” 35 NAME Flora Bockman Sydelle Charlow Georgeann Churak Sammy Cohen ..... This is your roving reporter, Katherine Daley, of the Interna- tional Comet, situated at present on the corner of Times Square and 42nd Street. As the crowd gathers here awaiting the stroke of midnight, I am able to distinguish several familiar faces. Busily signing autographs, are the internationally famed song and dance team, Barbara Kinne and Carolyn Poole. The celebrated pair has just completed an engagement at the Brooklyn Paramount (with Alan Freed, Junior). Speaking to them, I see Lynne Weiss, noted entertainment critic, who has also written a book, Philosophy, in 500 Easy Lessons . Miss Weiss, What do you think of this pair?” Great, Man, Just Great!” Also from the world of entertainment is Miss Marla Grant. She is the first person in the world to have stumped the answer man, and now is the Original Answer Woman. Making their way through the crowd is the former Miss Cynthia Rosman, with her husband, Melvyn. With them is ... it looks like . . . Yes! It is the famous race car driver, Mr. Irwin (Butch) Gitlin. Mr. and Mrs. Hazelnis and Mr. Gitlin own a thriving used car business, and, as a sideline, Cynthia Fixes bwoken scooters”. Approaching me now is Sydelle Charlow. She has the distinction of being the inventor and owner of the world's first Lettuce Juice Company, which specializes in microscopic size cans, to be taken wherever you go. There are several other noted inventors present in this crowd tonight. After just receiving the Nobel Prize for her brilliant discovery of eggless chickens, Janet Schmitt is arriving in a chauffeured car. With her, I see Arlene Schwartz, inventor of 50 shades of black stockings for women. Accompanying them are Lois Shur, president of the International Tobacco Company, and Dr. Ted Kaplan, who is currently working on a cure for cancer. I hear a violent dis- cussion taking place between the two; apparently about the merits of smoking. Dr. Kap- lan is addressing Miss Shur: Do you smoke?” No. Do you, Doctor?” Well. . . yes.” I notice Sheila Kesner, who has built Glen Wild up into the thriving metropolis that it is today through the sale of her latest discovery of Vanishing Creme for Freckles.” Class Prophecy Now approaching this busy intersection is the presidential car. Alighting from the auto- mobile is the first woman president of the world, Linda Michaels. Recently President Michaels has done the remarkable task of putting Mountainside on the map. With Miss Michaels are two members of her cabinet. Mr. Edward Gasthalter, Head of the Department of Justice, is currently being applauded for his decision to legalize gum chewing in high schools. Now that you have made gum chewing legal, Justice Gasthalter, what are you going to do about the paralyzing teachers' strike?” The Secretary of the Treasury, Rita Saperstein, who is still carrying what looks like a cigar box full of money is with them. Following the Treasurer is Ann Lachterman. Miss Lachterman is the first multi-billionaire in the world, to still have her first penny which she earned while selling magazines in high school. Is that a baby’s cry which I hear ? Running frantically after a baby carriage, is the former Miss Carole Hingen. Directly behind her is her husband, Harold Kline, who is the world’s foremost mathematician of our time. My attention is now turned from the excited parents to a shrieking group of teenage girls. The commotion is being caused by the billionaire playboy, Sam Cohen. One of the fans is addressing Mr. Cohen: Why don’t you marry, Sir?” Mr. Cohen neatly avoids the question by saying I stand on the fifth amendment.” Two prominent women of the medical profession are present in the crowd: Valerie Klein, head of the International Red Cross, and Renee Greenfield, recently voted Most Valuable Medical Secretary.” All eyes are now turned to the most attractive couple here tonight, Lorraine Kay (Most outstanding female model of the decade) and Mr. Irwin Welkis, whose face appears on almost all of the current record album covers and billboards throughout the nation. Miss Kay's world renowned hair dresser, Madame Dorothy Friedberg, accompanies the couple. The proprietor of the fabulous new Club 53, Tina Pincus, is approaching me. She has asked me to permit her to introduce her two valuable assistants. I would like you to meet Mr. Bill Cole, who supplies my night club with exotic flowers and Mr. Jerome Feldman, who keeps my freezers stocked with 200 flavors of ice cream.” Thank you, Miss Pincus. The laugnter coming from the crowd is attributed to the foremost wits of our time, Patricia Mcllvecn, outstanding in the field of novelty records, and Gerald Fox, known especially for his imitations. Class Prophecy With them, just back from a safari in Outer Mongolia is Bob Cole, noted Big Game Hunter. Mr. Cole has succeeded in bringing back to the United States a live Ligress— the most feared animal in the world. You’re absolutely wrong! I hear a lively discussion going on. It is between those two masters of the art of debate, Kenneth Walter, and Leslie Schere. They are now arguing, Which came first, the chicken or the egg? I see two women in uniform appearing. One is the colonel of the WACS, Georgeanne Churak, and the other, Beverly Mednick, is the head of the WAVES. Busily taking notes on the events of this evening are two girls voted Speediest Speed Writers of the Century, Kathy Cross and Flora Bochman. I must thank Kenny Goodwin for his superb management of this gala affair. The murals of this occasion, painted by the modern Rembrandt,” Jerry Dobbs, will appear in every major art center to remind us of this fantabulous occasion. Claudia Speckhardt, president of the Ladies Union of Bus Drivers, is now arriving in a gilt-edged bus to take her old classmates to a reception at April Siegler’s new Stork Club” Casino where rare delicacies, from all over the world are served nigh', . Now we will switch to our reporter, who is stationed at the Skybluepink Room of the Siegler Stork Club. This is your Stork Club reporter. Tonight we are honored with the presence of some of the most esteemed educators of the century. Through a haze of smoke, we see Mr. Brizel reading his newspaper, while Mr. Feldman dozes after an exhausing game of yo-yoing. Mrs. Grossman and Mr. Beytin are giving a wrestling exhibition. Coaches Halchak and Allan are still discussing the prospects of next year’s team. While Miss Ferrari and Mr. Denning are trying to aid Mr. Kaplan in the proper enunciation of the French and Spanish languages, Miss Rosner is busily taking notes on the whole affair. Through the glass wall, I see, Mr. Furniss driving Mr. Madeo’s Doodlebug.” Stepping from the car, is the famous designer, Miss Anthony, in one of her beautiful creations. These personalities have been brought together through the political influence of Senator Nathan Weiss. As it is almost midnight we return you to Times Square.” As the golden disc descends, I see it is time to depart, taking with us memories that twinkle like the brightest stars. SBS i f i f DENNIS EAIRBROTHER, JOAN IMMERMAN, PAUL MICHAEL Officers Washington Excursion Thursday, November 27, 1958. 6:30 A.M. we were there! The place, Middletown, New York. The destination, Washington, D. C. Roll call was taken—one person found missing—Pvt. Butch Gitlin. After one tele- phone call, we were ready to maneuver our forces on to the train. Seven hours later the Fallsburgh Senior regiment invaded Washington. We were met by our guide, Just Plain Bill.” Several jokes and one meal later, we found ourselves at Annapolis, home of the midshipmen. Highlights of this first stop were April's acquiring of a cadet’s autograph, and Sammy’s finding of the initial brick, in front of the barracks. We boarded the bus and after several choruses of Dixie, we arrived at our camp, the Franklin Park Hotel. The next one and one half hours were spent in packing away our gear and reconoitering the general layout of the hotel, especially the area between the fourth and sixth floors. Our mess hall for the duration was Scholl’s Cafeteria, where we ate and then split up into three divisions. General Wiles took a platoon of ten (including three girls) to the Capitol Arena where a bloody” battle between Rocca and The Sheik was wit- nessed. The second platoon saw Gigi,” and the third was the Last Hurrah. During the night of our first encampment, our tired troops were unnerved by mys- terious noises on the back steps. Lights out at (censored) o’clock. Casualties—None. 7:30 A.M. the following morning the friendly” manager sounded reveille and we dragged ourselves out of our bunks. We quickly assembled on the bus and left for the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, where Annie removed some souvenirs. 10:00 A.M. in front of the capitol our regiment posed in their battle uniforms and we took the traditional photo (on wet grass), and then proceeded to the White House. In the afternoon we assaulted the F.B.I. building, and the Smithsonian Institute. Here, Arlene, Janet, and Lois, were tempted to bring the Hope Diamond home. After chow, we saw J. B.” through closed eyes, and went for pizza, southern style, (with a knife and fork). Billy left a $3.00 tip for a S2.00 meal. The destination of our afternoon excursion was Mount Vernon, but en route, we were sidetracked by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Washington Excursion After buying souvenirs for the folks up North at Washington’s house, we headed for the Lincoln Memorial and then back to the hotel. Teddy, Carole, Butch and Cynthia went on an expedition for Teddy bears; Valerie captured a poodle (stuffed, of course) and the rest stayed in their barracks for a much needed rest. 7:30 P.M. half of us saw, through groggy eyes, Cinerama, while the rest slept through Theater-in-the-Round. We quietly returned to our bunks, and just as we were getting our forces organized, two M.P.’s arrived on the scene. Under the persuasion” of Mrs. Wiles they retreated to the manager. Our jam session was complete when Carolyn was convinced to join us in a borrowed robe. The rest of the early morning hours were spent in reading of love comics and other informative literature; others had water fights and some made futile attempts at sleep. The jangling of the telephone jarred us from what little sleep we received. Last minute souvenirs were bought, and we boarded the bus for Baltimore. We returned to our starting point; after more train and bus rides, which were filled with happy songs and cheers. .. . Mission—Successful .. Objective—Attained .. . v arsit {Junior Varsity MR.
