OPERATTAS In sixth grade, 1958, this year's seniors participated in a play for the first time. It was WThe King Sneezesn with Peter Krogseng and Sheila Oliver playing the part of the King and Queen. Then in the eighth grade, 1941, an elementary and jun- ior high operetta, nit Happened in Hollandn. This operetta presented a delightful story of old Holland. The leading characters were: Juliana ------- Gypsy Queen ----- Bourghomaster - - - - Katrina - - ----- Hulda -------- JanS----- Gypsy Josh - - Katz - - - - - Gertrude, the cat -D- Choruses of milkmaids, Dutch men and women Jeanne Reuter Helen Markowski Arthur Holmstrom Jean Radosevich Donna Thompson Edward Johnson Vincent Puliccickio Edward Carlson Robert Evans bears, and even kittens lent much color. o gypsiesf Another operetta, WThe Prince of Peddlersn, was given in the ninth grade, 1942. The scene of the play was in a remote kingdom where customs never change. Musical Activities String Ensemble : The String Ensemble was orranized two years apo when Mr. Olson returned to direct our instrumental music activi ties. This is a group of eight string players and the piano. Practices are held every Monday noon and Tuesday even ing in the Little Theater. The tvne of music olaved by this group is mostly semi-classical including such numbers as: Stardust, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, Our Waltz, Some- times I Feel Like a Motherless Child, and Reverie. They provide the music for the school plays and for many different banquets. This year the String Ensemble, together with the School Band, gave a concert in the Fort Frances High School. They also provided the music for one of the J. C. programs over CKFT.
