The Making Of A Great Year Falls City High School Falls City, NE In “The Making of a Great Year”, you’ll see the production staff and cast at work. The Seniors will star in the show and appear in their final curtain call at graduation. The Juniors work on their roles as understudies, while the Sophomores, as the supporting cast, and the Freshmen apprentices learn the trade from the upperclassmen. THE MAKING 01 All the world’s a stage , and on that stage we learn our roles, receive direction, correct our downfalls, and practice until we are ready to perform. That doesn’t apply to acting only — it also applies to life. Just as the making of a great performance requires group participation, a great director, and a determined cast, so does The Making of a Great Year’’ need determination, direction, and dedication. In a way, high school prepares us for the great performance we are all required to make in life. We struggle with our lines and miss our cues, but with the help of our directors (the faculty) and our fellow actors (the students), we are ready when the curtain goes up. A GREAT YEAR Then, the big moment comes — the director yells, “Lights, Camera, Action”, the film rolls, and the story begins ... 3 THE PROGRAM Producers • School Board, Superintendent, Principal ............ 6 Directors • Faculty ............................................ 7 Technical Crew • Aides and Janitors ........................... 11 Intermission • Activities ..................................... 13 Stuntmen ■ Athletics .......................................... 61 Apprentices • Freshmen ........................................ 98 Supporting Cast • Sophomores ................................. 104 Understudies Juniors ....................................... 110 Stars • Seniors .............................................. 117 Finale • Graduation .......................................... 130 Stars' Autographs • Senior Signatures ........................ 134 Resumes • Senior Summaries ................................... 137 Publicity • Advertisements ................................... 139 FCHS Administrators help with the making of a great year District 56 Board of Education members are. The production was directed by Bob Loss with musical direction by Mildred Appleoff and pit band direction by John Svoboda. The audience enjoyed the story of Harold Hill, a man who comes to con a small Iowa town, but instead finds love with the town librarian. As the evening's entertainment, the students presented four one-act plays. The plays showed the versatility and determination of the actors, and complimented the directing skills of director Bob Loss. During intermission dessert furnished by the drama club was served. At the Banquet, the Juniors and Seniors were served a smothered steak dinner. During the dinner a humorous class prophecy about the Seniors was read by the Junior Class vice-president. Terry Malcolm. Stephanie Rowell, Jerry and Diane Feighner Drama Club sweeps the stage The members of the 1981-82 Drama Club are well aware of what the word 'busy' means. Their year of productions started with Music Man in the first few weeks of school, and went nonstop - until mid-February, when the One-Acts Dessert Theatre was held. In between productions and rehearsals, the members went to Omaha to a J. Geils concert and had a Valentine's dance. Although there was no spring play this year, the drama club members didn't get lax in their acting abilities. This was evident at the Drama Club Initiation Banquet on April 25th. After the meal, the new members performed in skits of their own creation and the Senior club members presented a mock awards skit. A ‘slightly messy' initiation stunt was then required of the nine new members. The winners of the drama awards are pictured below. They are: Mike Zeigler, Best Actor; Holly Jones, Best Actress. Mary Beth Weinert, Most Improved; Jerry Chab, Newly Discovered; and for Best Supporting Roles, Craig Smith and Dawn Decklnger. Varsity Volleyball battled through a tough season this year. It was a growing year for the girls under the new supervision of Coach Luis Cass. According to Cass, In most respects it was a disappointing season. We had higher hopes for 1981, but we just didn't come through. The highlights had to be the improvement shown by a number of underclassmen and the consistent play of some of our returning veterans, namely Cheryl Goff and Kari Scheitel. However, there is reason for optimism for the 1982-1983 season since nine returning lettermen will give the Tigers a seasoned look. Therefore, high expectations exist for both players and coaches in viewing the upcoming season. 69 Junior Varsity volleyball squad builds for future The Junior Varsity volleyball team had a rebuilding season in '81. The girls played with intensity, but lacked the needed experience. As for the desire among the girls, it was made clear they had it in every match. Bek COUNTY CLERK Nevada Williams COUNTY JUDGE Albert Maust The journalism staff of Falls City High School extends a big thank you to all those who made the yearbook possible by advertising in it. Also, a special thanks to Mr. Harley Ridgway and Morsman Studio for giving us his time and photographic assistance. Without him we would have no yearbook to hold our memories. I SING THE BODY ELECTRIC I sing the body electric. I celebrate the me yet to come. I toast to my own reunion when I become one with the sun. And I'll look back on Venus; I'll look back on Mars. And I'll burn with’ the fire of ten million stars. And in time, and in time we will all be stars. I sing the body electric. I glory in the glow of rebirth, creating my own tomorrow when I shall embody the earth. And I'll serenade Venus; I'll serenade Mars. And I'll burn with the fire of ten million stars. And in time, and in time we will all be stars. We are the emperors now and we are the czars. And in time, and in time we will all be stars.
