On November 14 and 15, the Lerner and Loewe musical, “My Fair Lady”, was produced in collaboration with the Music Department. It was a rousing success with full houses both nights. In January, a new event was added to the drama calendar with the presentation of “A Night of One-Acts: A Dessert Theatre”. Seven plays were presented, with a dessert bar set up at intermission. The plays included, “Who’s on First?”, “Ladies of the Mop”, and Edward Albee’s “The Sandbox”. On January 20, “The Sandbox” was taken to district one-act competition at Dana College, where they placed a respectable third, missing State by only one point. In April, the speech team went to Districts and did well considering it was a building year. To cap off the year, Joseph Kesselring’s “Arsenic and Old Lace” was performed on April 24 and 25. Also during the year, Thespians took two trips to Omaha to see productions of “My Fair Lady” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.” On May 6, 1981, the end of the year initiation party was held at the home of Christy Stalder. After the pot luck dinner, new members were sworn in, the year’s awards were presented, and next year’s officers were elected. It was also decided to change the name of the organization to the Drama Club. This was done due to the high cost of the Thespian Association dues. All in all, it was a most satisfactory year with hopes that next year will be as productive. 62 Officers Tami Hunzeker ...................... Secretary Christy Stalder .................. Vice-Pres. Many chorus members participated, first of all, in the school musical, “My Fair Lady”. With all the help from everyone, it was a smashing success. Soon after the musical was over, the members of the Chorus were again busy putting together “Ye Olde Madrigal Feaste”. With all the help from the Chorus’s Student Teacher, Roger Kelley, and with the new ideas that Mrs. Appleoff had, both nights of the feaste were entertaining and satisfying. As the fourth quarter started, the Department had a different student teacher, Keith Rippe. Along with Mrs. Appleoff, he trained the students well, helped with solos and the many ensembles, and sent them to District Music Contest. The Chorus Department was very successful, bringing home ten Superior ratings and two Excellent ratings. The Chorus also traveled to Peru State College for the annual Peru Choral Clinic. As the school year wound down, the Department put on a very entertaining Revue, called “The Best of a Decade”, which involved many students and also integrated many grads from the past ten years. The Chorus finished the year by taking their annual tour, going north to Johnson-Brock and then to Lincoln Southeast. They started practicing to get ready for their first appearance, which was the Peru Swing Choir Clinic. They tossed around many songs, and finally came up with an entertaining show to present to the people of Peru. The clinician gave many suggestions that helped the group. The Show Choir added new songs, and went on to Maryville for the annual Swing Choir Contest. From there they went back to Peru, along with the Mixed Chorus, and gave an exciting show to the audience that attended the concert that evening. There was a small break, then the choir went back on the road to Hiawatha, where they received a First Division Rating. The members of the choir were pleased with the rating. The next contest was at Midland Lutheran College, in Fremont. Nebraska. The choir participated in the preliminary rounds, but did not make the semi-finals. The choir then began to prepare for District Music Contest at Auburn. They received a Superior Rating, which was the tenth such rating for the Falls City Show Choir in ten years straight. From then on, the Applederas Show Choir began learning songs for the Spring Revue entitled, The Best of a Decade, which included some graduates of the past ten years. After the Revue was finished, the Show Choir, along with the Mixed Chorus, went on the annual choir tour. Two stops were made, at Johnson Brock High School and Lincoln Southeast High School. The whole day proved to be interesting and fun. The next big adventure for the Applederas Show Choir was a week-long trip to Colorado. On June 2, the choir, along with chaperones and bus drivers, set off for Denver, Colorado, and later up to Estes Park. Colorado, where they participated in The Festival of the Rockies. The members of the group enjoyed the sights in Denver, along with an entertaining show they gave at Larimer Square. The choir was judged at Estes Park, according to International rules, and the choir returned home early in the morning of June 7 with a Bronze medal for their fine efforts. Rea. Pep Club was responsible for supporting all school athletic teams and promoting school spirit this year. Decorating the halls with crepe paper and posters each week, long bus rides to away games, and cheering the team to victory on the coldest of evenings were among the activities many Pep Club members took in stride. This year’s money-making projects included the selling of “TIGER” hats and scarves and a spring bake sale. In addition to the traditional mascot, Tigger, members enjoyed having another spirited fan attend the football games. “Big Bird”, alias Rod Miller, provided extra enthusiasm for the team. The Homecoming Spirit Line, bonfire, and “Stomp On the Bluejays” float were highlights of this year’s activities. Pep Club sponsors, Mr. Bob Loss and Mrs. Pat Cook, and Drill Team sponsor, Miss Wanda Biel, also put in many long hours on buses and at games and contributed their spirit and inspiration to all. An early interception for a touchdown proved to be a fatal blow for the Tigers. Falls City dominated most of the stats, but turnovers ruined the Tigers chance for a comeback win. Craig Stevens snuck over for Falls City’s lone scoring drive of 63 yards. Bill Miller and Dan Convey were rushing leaders, while Bob Burton led the team defensively with 10 tackles. Tigers Romp over Jeffs Falls City gave the fans a big offensive show for their first victory of the season over Fairbury. Hard-hitting defense and good execution helped the Tigers run up drives of 34, 9, 61, 21, 45, 57, and 80. Dan Convey was the offensive leader gaining 100 yards, and scoring 3 touchdowns. Bob Burton was next with 75 yards and scoring 2 touchdowns. Defensively, Mark Smith led a balanced attack followed by Convey, Dave Auffert, Mark Bauman and Burton. Tigers Squeeze by Wymore Falls City made their road-trip to Wymore and came back with a 6-0 victory over the Raiders. Turnovers again hampered the Tigers' offense, which dominated the stats. A fourth quarter drive of 90 yards was capped by a 1 yard plunge by Bill Miller for the winning score. A rugged defense by the Tigers proved to be the winning factor of the game, with Dan Convey, Dave Auffert, and Bill Miller leading the way. Craig Stevens also hauled down three interceptions. Tigers Lose Defensive Battle Falls City and Marysville both played outstanding defenses, but the Spoofhounds came away with the victory, 0-6. The Tigers drove close to the goal line several times but came up empty. Bill Miller led the balanced defensive attack with 12 tackles. Tigers Win 28-14 The Tigers picked up another win with a 28-14 victory over Marysville. Dan Convey rushed for 89 yards in 11 carries. Bill Miller and Tony Woods each rushed for over 70 yards. The evening was highlighted by a 62 yard pass from quarterback Craig Stevens to Bob Burton with 18 seconds left to play in the first half. Mark Smith led the Tigers’ defense with 17 tackles followed closely by Bob Burton, Mark Smith, and Bill Miller. 94 Terry Wenz, Bill Miller, Mark Smith, Mark Bauman, Greg Stanley, Coach Terry Henrlchs, Ralph Tackett, Dennis Chandler, Ed Simpson. Doug Ron Holman; 3rd Row — Lance Schwartz, Jeff Schwarting, Matt Sailors, Parrish, Scott Kirkendall, Tony Mount, Dennis Auffert, Todd Matthes Tigers Win The Falls City Tigers scored an upset victory against the Orangemen of Beatrice for the last game of the 1980 season. Craig Stevens led the Tigers to victory with his passing and running. Stevens threw touchdown passes of 10, 26, and 38 yards. He also ran 50 yards for a touchdown late in the game to sew up the victory. The defensive leaders of the game were Bob Burton, Bill Miller, Dan Convey, and Mark Smith. The Tigers won the game by a margin of 26-14. Tigers Lose Another Close One The Redskins of Hiawatha defeated Falls City 21-16 in an exciting game of big play. The Tigers spent most of the game trying to catch up, but fell short of doing so. The offensive lead went to Craig Stevens and Jeff Slagle, who paired up for two touchdown passes. Mark Bauman and Mark Smith were the defensive leaders for the Tigers. Homecoming Victory Over Bluejays The Tigers easily handled Sabetha 32-12 for the Homecoming victory. Bob Burton and Bill Miller scored two touchdowns apiece to lead the offense while Jeff Slagle and Denny Whalen were defensive leaders. Tigers Defeated 6-10 Falls City traveled to Seward for their final road game and were edged by the Bluejays. Once again the Tigers dominated the stats but could not get the ball in the end zone. A Craig Stevens’ pass to Bill Miller on the very first drive was the lone Falls City score. A final scoring attempt was ended in the final minute when a pass was deflected from Dan Convey in the end zone. Another solid defensive effort was led by Mark Bauman.
