Text from Pages 1 - 168 of the 1976 volume:

Look back restless voyager, The sun is rising high and mighty Where our laughs cracked the air and our Legs kicked into the wind. Smiles were wide and real. Crowds of voices rang, calling us, hugging At our shoulders and teasing at our hands. We sang and danced, ran and jumped, threw Our weight to the sun rising high. And we stand together to look back, the Shadows stretching long, silent. Look ahead restless voyager The sun is rising high and mighty, never to set. Leaves turn green to gold to brown as we Stretch our muscles and raise our chests. We walk and run never to stop, looking ahead To the distant shore. Others may run and laugh on the ground where we stood, Our voices echo with theirs. We must leave to grow, stretch, reach, and Remember only with fond love. Hope is like the tide, it sinks and rises, Love is the sea, constant and forever As the sun rises high and mighty. — J. Patrick Brightwell FALLS CITY HIGH SCHOOL FALLS CITY. County Government Day 27 Underclassmen 28 Activit es Homecoming ’75 The homecoming activities were kicked off by a spirited crowd at a roaring bonfire on Thursday. October 9. 1975. The varsity cheerleaders led the cheers. Coach Butler made a victory speech, and the pep band played the school songs. The Thespians showed their spirit by doing a skit on the meaning of football. Friday afternoon, the spirit continued through out the Homecoming parade. The winners in the float contest were: First. German Club; Second. Junior Class; and Third. Chorus. There were also many colorful posters hanging from the stadium walls. A pep rally followed the parade and Mr. Vanderheiden gave a victory speech. Before the game, the band marched through town and around the high school track playing both school songs. Friday night the Tigers came through to smash the Hiawatha Redskins 32-8. During half-time. Joni Hihath was crowned queen and Mark O'Banion was crowned king. 30 Homecoming Royalty Joni Hihath, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mount and Doyle Hihath, was chosen as the 1975-76 Homecoming queen. Homecoming, again, was celebrated with a bonfire, parade, poster contest, coronation ceremonies, and a dance following the victorious Homecoming game. Members of the student council worked at information booths for Career night and Parent-Teacher Conferences. Also this year, the girl got a chance to take out the guy of her choice on twirp day. During the Seniors’ last week of school, the annual Dress-up day and Grubby day were changed slightly. Only the underclassmen had to dress-up. this was in honor of the seniors. Those who dressed up were given a ticket for a free can of pop and a candy bar on Grubby day. Grubby day was held on the school lawn and students bought sandwiches from the sophomore class. The Student Council also sponsored several assemblies, including a magician shown on this page. The David Wilson memorial marquee was completed this year thanks to the fund raising efforts of student council and other organizations in the past. As in the first game, Whalen and Wilson led the way defensively. “TIGERS DEFEAT RAIDERS IN HOME OPENER” Falls City came through with a narrow win over Wymore Southern in the first home game of the season. The game, dominated by the defense and filled with errors, was won by a 10-7 margin. Bill Jahn lunged over the goal TWO: Dennis Miller. Duane Armbruster. Mike Whalen. Jim Pratt. Don Sheets. Two long pass-runs contributed to the Maryville offense. Bill Jahn scored from the one on the first play of the fourth quarter. The conversion failed, leaving the final score at 14-6. Jim Farmer was a team leader until he was sidelined with a concussion. Jim Pratt and Harry Kirkendall were also outstanding defensively. “TIGERS FALL TO AUBURN BULLDOGS” In a bid for sole possession of the Southern Division Crown of the Twin Rivers Conference, the Tigers fell short with a 14-6 loss to Auburn. The lone Tiger score came when Bill Jahn scored from the one foot line to climax a 91 yard drive late in the first half. Defensively, the leaders were Harry Kirkendall and Mike Whalen. 92 Coach Mike Butler THIRD ROW: Assistant Manager Brian Walker. Tim Hedrick. Tom Wilson. Assistant Manager Roger Lampe. A bright spot for the Tigers came late in the third quarter when Wilson made a leaping catch of a Kratz pass to put the ball on the Plattsmouth 10, a gain of 34 yards. Leading the pack in tackles were Bill Jahn. Harry Kirkendall, and Marty Meinzer. ‘‘TIGERS DROP GAME AT NEBRASKA CITY” The Pioneers took advantage of Tiger mistakes in the first half and held on defensively in the second half to defeat Falls City 21-6. The Tigers’ lone touchdown was made on a great second-effort run by Kevin Killingsworth in the first quarter. Bill Jahn turned in the outstanding performance for the defense. “TIGERS END REGULAR SEASON WITH WIN” The Tigers put together a successful drive to open the game and ran the second-half kickoff back to claim a 14-0 victory over Boys Town. Royal blue, ice blue, and silver were the colors chosen by the juniors to further enhance the theme, “Stairway to Heaven”. Reverend Giles gave the invocation. The meal which was prepared by the juniors’ mothers, was served by members of the sophomore class. Brenda Jones, the junior class president, welcomed the seniors to the prom and the senior class president, Tami Meinzer, gave the response. Freshman-Sophomore Swing Choir provided the entertainment, and Junior-Senior Swing Choir presented the theme in song. Music for the dance was furnished by “Windsong”. Surely this was a memorable occasion which will be long treasured by everyone attending. Class Of 1976 Graduation Ceremonies May 23, 1976 Dr. Aileen Swofford.
