Text from Pages 1 - 144 of the 1972 volume:

Quieter moments found young minds preoccupied in thoughts about life, about love, about freedom, about the world that was soon to be theirs. Some brooded over fallen stars, others dared to dream of new galaxies to explore. To beauteous Miss Ohio, Laurie Shaefer, came the thrill of being crowned Miss America 1972. A Londonner reads details on America's devaluation of the dollar, a move designed to bolster the nation's position in world trade. Focusing attention on ecological distress, groups could always find projects close at home. A resurging interest in religion among youth was called The Jesus Revolution, along with the hit song, Jesus Christ, Superstar. Washington's new landmark, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, glittered for the formal opening with Leonard Bernstein's MASS . Neil, a Falls City High Senior was fatally wounded by an accidental rifle discharge. Neil was an active participant in basketball, football, and track throughout high school. He lettered in football his senior year as the starting quarterback. He was also involved in the Senior Class Play and was a class officer his sophomore year. In his memory the students and faculty of Falls City High School along with Neil’s parents established a trophy that will be presented each year to a deserving football athlete. The remaining money will be used to erect a video tape facility in Jug Brown Stadium. 2 Board of Education FRONT ROW: Dr. Donald Burling, Dr. Richard Gentry, Mr. Howard Auxier. The play, which was directed by Mr. Jim Mimick, is based on a famous murder trial. It follows American court procedure realistically, making the play educational. An unusual feature of the play is the selection of the jury from the audience. It was the jury’s duty to render an honest verdict based on the evidence presented. Two surprise endings were prepared, one based on a “guilty” verdict and the other on a “not guilty” verdict. Miss Andre was found “not guilty” at both performances. The two lawyers, Don Bumgarner and Donald Davies, became very close during the production. Virginia Beach Or Bust The Falls City High School Band was invited to the Virginia Beach Band Festival, held June 12-15, and several fund-raising projects were held to raise funds for the trip. Included in these projects were a TV raffle, taking the city census, a candy sale, raking Steele Cemetery, telephone raffle, a 15 mile walk for cash, and Rent-A-Kid. The Rent-A-Kid project involved people in the community hiring the band students for odd jobs and paying them so much an hour for the job. Numerous bake sales and car washes were also held. The band parents also held several projects, including operating the concession stand at all home football and basketball games, bake sales, a flea market, and the annual soup supper. They also provided much moral support for the band. The community also helped in many ways with such things as service club donations, projects by some of the service clubs, and many individual donations. It’s either talking or eating, never working.
