Functions, Calculus Department Chairman An equation-filled blackboard best symbo¬ lizes our Math Department. Math is a never-end¬ ing challenge to students for it requires accuracy, knowledge, deep thought, and concentration. It has grown from a simple system of counting to the vast science that arrives at principals based on logical proof. This year math scholars were rewarded for their achievement by being chosen for member¬ ship in the Math Honor Society, an organization formed to give deserving students recognition as well as incentive for future studies in math. Two teachers were new to the staff; Com¬ mander Heine and Mr. Wells, for a total of nine members in the department. Page 28

With Mr. Scott (a former gradu¬ ate of Falls Church High School), comes a new course, E.S.C.S., traditional chemistry and bi¬ ology taught with more emphasis on laboratory techniques and experiment. Trips to local and regional Science Fairs pro¬ vided students with enjoyment as well as learn¬ ing.
