Social Studi es The Social Studies Department welcomed Mr. Fleming, Mr. Sell, Mr. Mandes, Col. Schade, Mr. Yount, and Mr. Larsen to its staff this year. This department offers courses in World Geog¬ raphy, World Flistory, United States and Vir¬ ginia history, American and Virginia Govern¬ ment, and one-semester courses in sociology and economics. Also offered is the American Civili¬ zation class taught by Mrs. McCullough and Miss Wilson. This program emphasizes the cor¬ relation of American history and literature. Col. Music Department The band, under the direction of Mr. James G. Lunsford, and the choral groups, directed by Mr. Richard Keller, provide musical entertain¬ ment for the school and community, while bring¬ ing rewards and honors to Falls Church. The music department presents winter and spring concerts for the enjoyment of students and fac¬ ulty and performs at several assemblies during the year. Learning to appreciate music enriches a student’s curriculum. Mr. James Lunsford Band; Music Appreciation Department Chairman Mr. Richard Keller Choral Music Art Department Under the guidance of Mrs. Frances Crum and newcomer, Mrs. Peggy Odell, the art de¬ partment has inspired much artistic creativity. A new enameling kiln was installed in the ad¬ vanced art classes and instruction in this tech¬ nique was begun for the first time. Activities in¬ cluded the annual art field trip to New York City, the Variety Show, and the annual art exhibit.
