Study of grammar forms and enlargement of vocabulary are two of the ways by which our ability to communicate with others is perfected. Reading and understanding the novels of Cooper or Hardy, the thought-provoking dramas of Sophocles or Miller, the poetic treatment of Whitman or Wordsworth increase our apprecia¬ tion of life and literature. Friendship Amonj Countries Miss Elizabeth Kane French I, II ■w- Mrs. Janine Lavanceau French II, III, IV, V Mr. Charles Moore Spanish II, III, IV, V This year for the first time a French V course was offered at Falls Church High School. Other offerings include four years of French, Spanish, German, and Latin. Several students continued with the advanced placement French, and one student took advanced placement German. The foreign language clubs presented an as¬ sembly again this year which was a pucces fou. Some of the advanced French classes attended a French performance of L’annonce faite a Marie, which was read in class. The acquisition of a typewriter with foreign accents made the teacher’s work easier. Two new French teachers, Miss Kane and Mrs. Lavanceau, and one new Spanish teacher, Miss Cordle, joined the teaching staff this year. Lab work aids in the comprehension of foreign languages. Page 25
