Reading D evelopment Mr. Howard Grindle Reading Joe Stephenson and Nancy Jones increase their scholastic pro¬ ficiency by improving their reading skill. “To make the reading department a full time job next year, so we can take as many students as possible,” is the plan of Mr. Howard Grindle, reading teacher at Falls Church High School. He received his B.S. and M.A. from Appa¬ lachian State Teachers College, and taught at Herndon High School before coming to Falls Church. Mr. Grindle says, “The thing I like most about Falls Church is the attitude of the stu¬ dents—they’re interested.” Page 21

School Store Staff Mrs. Marie McFarlane Finance Secretary Larry Jones, Carolyn Haack, John Loikow, Mrs. McFarlane, Larry Sampson, Nancy Miller, Carol Moore. Visiting Teacher As visiting teacher at Falls Church High School, Mrs. Louise Rigdon acts as the liaison between the school, the home, and the com¬ munity. As a member of the staff of the Fairfax County Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, she offers a specialized service to each child. “A teacher must have had three years successful teaching experience and special training before she can qualify for a visiting teacher’s certificate,” Mrs. Rigdon explains, “and we only work with referred students.” Originally from McKenney, Virginia, she re¬ ceived a B.S. from Longwood College and did graduate work at R. P. I. and the University of Virginia. She taught both in North Carolina and southern Virginia before coming to Fairfax County in 1946 and to Falls Church in 1949.
