GUIDANCE OFFICE Guidance Office Staff The Guidance Department of Falls Church High School strives to provide services which will enable each student to facilitate his academic suc¬ cess, help him recognize and understand his strengths and limitations, assist him in identifying his interests and in formulating realistic educational and vocational goals. The guidance staff, composed of five full time counselors and one secretary, works under the di¬ rection of the Director of Guidance, Mrs. Miles. Counselors see all of their counselees routinely but they also welcome and encourage them to initi¬ ate conferences themselves when they think their counselor can be of assistance to them. The library has over twelve thousand books this year, bringing it above the Southern Associa¬ tion standard of eight books per student. It is hoped that the library will soon reach the na¬ tional standard of ten books per student. Library orientation and reference book in¬ struction have been available for freshmen and new students. New this year has been the brief¬ ing for seniors on reference tools needed by the college-bound student. New Audio-Visual materials were purchased this year. The collection of supplemental teach¬ ing and appreciation records was expanded and now includes foreign literature and music ap¬ preciation among others.
