Mr. Arthur J. Valotto, our Assistant Principal for Administration, is very enthusiastic about Falls Church High. He is “impressed with the friendliness and cooperation of the student body and faculty and ... is proud to bring visitors into the school.” He graduated from West Virginia University about fifteen years ago and since then has taught in Portsmouth, Virginia; was Athletic Director at Falls Church, and was Assistant Principal at Madi¬ son for two years before returning to Falls Church last spring. One of his numerous jobs is the sponsorship of the S.C.A. During the coming years, he hopes to develop this organization into a “body with prestige, capable of running student government.” Other plans for the school include establishing a reputa¬ tion for “our academically and extra-curricularly well-rounded students.” Mr. Arthur Valotto Assistant Principal for Administration Administration Mr. Leland Arthur Vliet graduated from George Washington University in 1943 with a masters de¬ gree in Economics. He came to Falls Church High in 1947 to teach in the Social Studies Department.. In 1962 he left to become Assistant Principal of Robert E. Lee High School, where he remained until last year when he returned to Falls Church. Mr. Vliet is very enthusiastic about the school and feels that Falls Church High does an admirable job in training students for higher education. GUIDANCE OFFICE Guidance Office Staff The Guidance Department of Falls Church High School strives to provide services which will enable each student to facilitate his academic suc¬ cess, help him recognize and understand his strengths and limitations, assist him in identifying his interests and in formulating realistic educational and vocational goals. The guidance staff, composed of five full time counselors and one secretary, works under the di¬ rection of the Director of Guidance, Mrs. Miles. Counselors see all of their counselees routinely but they also welcome and encourage them to initi¬ ate conferences themselves when they think their counselor can be of assistance to them.
