mencan Dull Sc a rt tce Nils Aasheim From Oslo, Norway, came Nils Aasheim to study at Falls Church on the A.F.S. program. Nils, the first boy to whom we have been host, made a big hit here and proved himself a wonderful international ambassador. From him we learned much of the customs, politics, and economy of Norway. From us Nils learned about the American way of life. Almost overcome by the heat when he arrived last July for his ten month stay, Nils overcame obstacles of language and customs. He became an honor roll student, a member of the debating team, and an active participant in school life. We have enjoyed having Nils at Falls Church this year, and it is v ith sadness that we bid him good-bye. Janet Reid Janet Reid, our exchange student to Switzerland, is the first student from Falls Church High School to participate in the “school-year” A.F.S. program. She has been an outstanding representative of our country. Janet wrote after three months among the Swiss, “It is surprising how proud one becomes of his country when he is away from it.” Janet’s stay in Switzerland proved to be an invaluable experience; when she returned in the spring she was still bubbling with enthusiasm for her adopted country. Henry Sharpe Henry Sharpe, Falls Church High School’s contribu¬ tion to the summer exchange program for A.F.S., spent three months in Weis, Austria. His summer abroad is something he’ll never forget, declares Henry, and he would like to go back there some day. We know Henry was an outstanding ambassador from the United States; Henry’s Austrian brother is now in California! Henry’s deep affection and friendship toward his “family” is today a cherished memory. Henry feels that he has gained a great deal from this wonderful opportunity. Page 6
