English Department The English Department is the octopus of the school. It crawls uninvited into the Physics lab, Civics discussions, and unhealthily into the cookery of the Home Economics Department. You might be elated at successfully squaring the hypotenuse in a Math class, but one dangle of the in¬ finitive could well upset the triangle, and so it is through the corridors “like I told you,” no, my friend, “as I told you;” no one is safe even in the halls. The wails of correction echo from the eighth grade to the seniors where you alternately hear “Tomorrow and tomorrow ...” intoned along with an impressive routine of senior words designed to uplift the vocabulary and depress the spirit. Science Department The Science Department orbited several times this year, dire most prominent was a first place winner in the Northern Virginia Science Fair. Benton Durley’s Solar Converter won top honors and sent him to Flint, Michigan, for the National Fair. Another ‘firing’ well known to us all was the annual ITS and SCF floating through the halls from 207. The fornraldehide from 211 ran a close second. Don’t let the innocent looks on Mrs. Chapman’s (seated) and Miss Shughrou’s faces fool you. Page 1 2
