Mr. Barrett -vjj istant Principal The job of Assistant Principal for Disci¬ pline is a very important and sometimes un¬ pleasant job that Air. Barrett has discharged with both firmness and fairness for many years. He brings teaching experience and a sense of humor to his duties. Besides the problem of discipline, he serves in many other administrative capacities around the school. Altogether, his efforts in the main¬ tenance of orderly routine help to make education at Falls Church High School a most profitable and pleasurable experience. Dr. Day Another new pedagogue has appeared on the Falls Church scene this year. Dr. Orlo Day, our Assistant Principal for Instruction, has assumed the duties of superintending the learning activities of this institution, and has been responsible for many of the serv¬ ices that compose our curricular atmosphere. His educational background, and instruc¬ tional experience in many subjects has en¬ abled him to bring to his duties an ability which has helped our school maintain its steady progress throughout this term. Mr. Mason This year has seen many changes, several of which have been effected by our new principal, Mr. William Leon Mason. Bringing with him from Mount Vernon High School, where he had served as Assistant Principal, the educational ex¬ perience of fourteen years, Mr. Mason has made great strides in establishing his philosophy of edu¬ cation. His intrinsic “belief in teenagers” has caused him to give the students larger and larger parts in the responsibility for their own activities. He has expressed a conviction that most teenagers are capable of assuming their share in the admin¬ istration of our high school and accordingly has created such student organizations as the Student Staff and the Principal’s Advisory Committee of Students. With what Mr. Mason terms “excellent cooperation of faculty and students, this trust has begun to pay its own way, a way that promises a new era of attainment for Falls Church High School. One of Mr. Mason’s most important innovations is the Student Staff. lie is here shown dis¬ cussing school business with three representative Staff members —Gary Wilkins, Harry Woodward, and John Bowers. GUIDANCE STAFF ANNE H. RULLMAN LUCILLE SCOTT MRS. ANN FREEMAN A.B. B.S. Secretary Director of Guidance Eighth Grade Counselor FIBRARY STAFF JOHN K. GOTT SARAH WHITE JACKSON B.A., M.A. B.A., M.A. Assistant Librarian Librarian Books have always been an integral part of education; not only school texts, but novels, poetry, science books, encyclopedias. There are books for fun, too. At school, our library provides books of all kinds, and our librarian, Mrs. Jackson, makes sure that each student may read as much as he wants. Helping her are our new assistant librarian, Mr. Gott, and a staff of students trained to run a library so that students and teachers may enjoy and benefit from the world of books. Students are constantly urged to explore other and larger libraries, so that their vision of reading materials is not limited to our own four walls.
