The show goes on. ron oCi (2 Lt 6 an 1 St ad o w 6 re66 men who have worked and studied to develop onr present school system, Alcott, Mann and Dewey. Into the glare of the now-brilliant light come the administrators and teachers of the modern schools, who are perhaps some of the most impor¬ tant of all, for they are training the youth in an age when ignorance is death, and knowledge is imperative in the fight to rescue man from his failure to understand man in an age of all destructive weapons. Falls Church High School, like many schools in the world today, represents the effort that is being made to hold high the light of learning, the torch of liberty. Pony express. Modern pony express. cession is long; many great people pass by; people who have preserved the knowledge of the world. They are great teachers and thinkers and orators, great men of science and letters. In the growing light come the figures of Rousseau and Pestalozzi and Froebel who were the first of the great edu¬ cators to believe that students should be taught by understanding and not by punishment. After these men come Thorndike, who developed much of the modern education system, and the

They are followed by the priests of the old religions who were the teachers of their time, and the early astronomers and scientists who began the scientific knowledge of the world. As the pro¬ cession reaches the Middle Ages, the light dims to a faint glow and only a few men pass by, the monks who, hidden away in their monasteries, kept knowledge alive in this age of dark¬ ness. The lights begin to grow again, as the Dark Ages pass from view and learning comes to life again. The pro- Our Alma Mater. The ancestor of Falls Church High School. a ' uer the horizon comes a light — a faint glow which grows and grows, illuminating everything in its path. Through the light come shadows of men, walking in a solemn procession along a trail of learning which begins with time and stretches to infinity. First is primitive man, for with him began knowledge, and with his chil¬ dren began education. Next are the Egyptians and the Romans, who are followed by Socrates, walking at a dig¬ nified pace along the path, accom¬ panied by Plato, famous for his great dialogues, and by Aristotle.
