,r f ff '17 , ass PAL your 0 R-.9241 USS FALGOUT QDER-3243 was named in honor of George Irving Falgout, seaman 2nd, whose heroic refusal to abandon his gun in the face of an onrushing Japanese torpedo plane earned him the posthumous award of the Navy Cross. Originally constructed as a Destroyer Escort by the Consolidated Steel Corpo- ration Limited, at Orange, Texas, FALGOUT was commissioned as QDE-3245 on November 15, 1943, In February, 1946, after having served her country as convoy escort vessel in the Atlantic, escorting Allied convoys to the Mediterranean Area, FALGOUT was placed in the reserve fleet at Green Cove Springs, Florida, In August 1951, FALGOUT was recommissioned as a Coast Guard Cutter. As USCGC FALGOUT QWDE-3241, the ship was assigned to the Thirteenth Coast Guard District, After serving in this capacity for two and one half years, FALGOUT was decommissioned in May 1954, at the Mare Island Shipyard, On June 30, 1955, FALGOUT was again commissioned as QDER-3241. On October 20, 1955, she ar- rived in Seattle, Washington, and commenced radar picket duties. In March 1959, FALGOUT arrived in her new homeport of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and continued radar picket duties in conjunction with Commander Barrier Forces, Pacific. On March 27, 1965, FALGOUT departed for duty with'the Seventh Fleet off the coast of Vietnam. Here FALGOUT patrolled independently and in conjunction with Navy, Coast Guard, and Vietnamese Navy ves- sels, seeking out and searching suspicious vessels, Since her initial Pacific deployment in 1965, FALGOUT has returned for four other deployments with Seventh Fleet, Most of the five cruises were spent on Operation Markettime, however FALGOUT has also been assigned to Taiwan Straits Patrol and as Station Ship, Hong Kong. At the completion of this deployment, FALGOUT will again be decommissioned after twenty-six years of service to her country.

Q 55 LCDR HAMRICK was born in Houma, Louisiana, on 10, December, 1935, In 1954, he was appointed to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, Where he E? graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with the class - of 1958, After graduation from the Academy, LCDR HAMRICK was assigned to the USS CONWAY QDDE-5075 as DCA, MPA, and later as Engineering Officer. In May of 1962, LCDR HAMRICK assumed command of the USS CATAWBA QATA-2105, commencing a two year tour of duty. In July of 1964, he reported to U. S. Navy Post- Graduate School, Monterey, California, receiving a Masters of Science degree in Environmental Science in P June of 1966. After Postgraduate School, LCDR 1 HAMRICK commenced his tour as Executive Officer of ' the USS BRADELY QDE-10411. On 10 May 1968, LCDR HAMRICK assumed duties as Commanding Officer of USS FALGOUT QDER-3241. , . 9 LCDR JAMES M,.
