PRESIDE T AND if ., F GUN DER BREAD FOR THE HUNGRY Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abirleth alone, but if it die, it bringetli forth much fruitf, Iohn 12:24 Hunger is the slayer of millions in our present modern world. This is difficult to realize While living in the land of prosperity. Hunger is the basic desire of the physical. There is, however, another hunger. It is that insatiable desire for something that never comes until jesus the Saviour fills the life. The greater part of the world is Without Christ and therefore starving for the something that can satisfy. You have chosen to be the answer for these hungry masses. I pray that you may comprehend more fully as the days pass the profound meaning of this scripture and motto. It is necessary to have a harvest if we would feed the hungry. The verse you have chosen explains the process leading to harvest. A grain that exists by itself and for itself can never see a harvest. This world abounds with selfish individuals whose lives are lived for material gain. 'What do I get out of it?', is a common expression. Wars are waged, people are robbed, blood is spilled and churches split by men who love themselves. Your greatest problems in Christian ministry will come through those who live for self. Jesus declared that to lose was to gain. The kernel must give up its life to gain a harvest of life. This is truth that will make your ministry more than mediocre. By holding you lose, by giving you gain. If you will be bread for the hungry then you must lose your life in Christian ministry. Our World has been changed by men who lost themselves in their inventions, art, music, etc. This last genera- tion needs to be changed by men who will lose themselves in dedicated ministry for the hungry of soul. Class of 1963, accept the challenge of your motto. Let your life be lost as a grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, vou will receive that life again in a rich harvest at His coming. Be broken bread for the hungry. They need you, for without bread they will die. Yours for the harvest, Russell K. Pier 8
