The staff published nine informative issues with the latest stories and happenings of the school. DON ' T BE My wittiness has escaped me What’s going on down there?? Hard at work ??? WARRIOR STAFF This year’s Warrior Staff ' was composed of twenty imaginative (?), hard-working students. The staff went on a money-making spree, collecting pop bottles and selling afghan tickets to earn extra money for improvements on the yearbook. Some days working on the yearbook seemed frustrating and impos¬ sible. But belonging to FV’s yearbook staff has proven to be a re¬ warding and worthwhile experience. FRONT, L-R: L. Mohart, K. Consulting with the Board of Education on everpresent problems, offering aid and advice to students, and taking pride in school activities are fitted into his busy schedule. 18 It’s been one of those days . . . I have to admit that I really don ' t know. Principal Even though the specific duties any principal has kept Mr. Breisinger busy, he is never too busy to participate in all FHS functions with special interest as he actively sup¬ ports all school endeavors. The students of FHS gratefully acknowledge the unsel¬ fish time and effort Mr. Breisinger spends to make our school a success. 19 Board of Education LEFT TO RIGHT: Robert Joost; Clerk, John Pendleton, Elmer Clinker, Francis Singer; Vice President, Robert Heisler; President, and Edgar Baker. Efficient, well informed men are hard to find, but we have five on the Central Local Board of Education. These men realize that a good education costs a lot of money and a great deal of hard work. The lack of it costs even more money and more hard work. With men like these in control, we will continue to be rated very high at the scho¬ lastic level. They believe in superiority, not mediocrity for Fairview High School. Secretary Mrs. Alice Sims MRS. GLORIA MILLER MR. DOUGLAS RUPP MRS. MILLER B.S. Ohio State, M.S. The featured a special program where community were in singing some Handel ' s Messiah. tempted. With people it was suc- Christmas concert segment of the members of the asked to join us selections from It was a success and we hope to do it again next year. The next activity on our calendar was the State Solo and Ensemble Com¬ petition. We took twelve ensembles and twenty-seven soloists to Bowling Green. This year we got daring and took all three groups. Mixed Chorus, Girls Chorus, Boys Chorus to District Com¬ petition at Napoleon, and received superior ratings which enabled us to go to State. State Competition was held at Shelby, Ohio on April 22, 1973, only it was a little different story ... we came home with two excellent and one superior rating. We are proud to know that Fairview was the only B-2 class choir in Ohio that was able to take all three groups to state competition. We were honored to be asked to sing at The First Presbyterian Church of Bryan and helped to convey the real purpose and message to the people of the Bryan community. The choir ended the year with a commencement tribute to the seniors graduating and we hope that their futures will be happy and fulfilled. Music Makers. . . SENIOR GIRL ' S ENSEMBLE, L-R: L. Cook, T. First the Fairview Band was invited again to take part in the Canadian Freedom Festival but this time in the capacity of a host band. They performed as the entertainment band along the banks of the Detroit River, next they participated in the parade itself the next day, and last, they performed a half time show. On August 21, the Apache Band arrived at the county fair and put on an outstanding routine to the tune Music, Music, Music . After that, the band entered the football scene where they per¬ formed at all the ball games. Also during this season the band traveled to the Defiance Spectac¬ ular where they competed against bands from the area and state (including Bowling Green University Band.) Fairview was the smallest in size but the largest in heart and thus put on an excellent show. The marching Apache Band had now reached the ultimate by attending the Chicago Christmas Parade on December 9. They were the only marching unit to be selected for the parade froin . Ohio. Eleven state ' s in all were represented. This, indeed, became the highlight of their success. On the concert side of things, the band performed at Christmas, at contest and in the spring. The stage band also came into rare form by participating at the Montpelier, Ayersville, and Tinora proms. This year’s pep band has been the best ever produced at Fairview. The enthusiasm has been overwhelming at the basketball games. To sum it up, it has been a very, very good year! - Mr. Herroon 68 Marching Season Chicago: Getting ready . . . Here we Go! Besides substitute teaching in our district these active members held a banquet and were entertained by several guest speakers. Language Club The 1972-73 Language Club consisted of twenty-two members. At the first monthly meeting Lieve Ellen from Belgium, Sabine ; Colditz from Germany, and Maria Veruza from Greece talked and answered questions concerning their homelands. At the Christ¬ mas party they had Mexican food, played charades and danced. The second half of the year included a poster night, a bowling party, and the club entertained by another exchange student of Fairview, Teresa Compos from Brazil. In May a picnic was held for their final meeting. FRONT, L-R: B. Allen, C. Tonjes, M. Smith, B. Karnes, B. Gaston, C. Haver, R. Arend. SECOND ROW: D. Hissong, W. Foust, T. Bok, P. Heisler, P. Fun-Filled Year On September 18, 1972, the Fairview Chapter of the Future Home¬ makers of America formally began their new year. At a pot luck dinner thirty new members were inducted and initiated. At this meet¬ ing Ruth Klinger, state vice-president of the region spoke about her trip to the National Convention in California The annual subregional meeting was held this year at FV with Ruth Klinger presiding. At this meeting many of the Chapter members par¬ ticipated to make the meeting a success. Eva Seibert represented the chapter in the regional Miss Ohio FHA contest. October brought along a pumpkin carving contest. Out of more than forty contestants six girls were awarded prizes. Other activities planned during the year were: selling Tom Watt kits, soliciting for CROP, sponsoring the Sweetheart Hop, creating a Fairbooth, holding Daddy-Date night, and an overnight trip to Greenfield Village. During April, many girls traveled to Columbus to take part in the State Convention. Vicki Schindler, was honored for creating the stage drop, Janet Rieke, Karol Rosebrock, Ruth Klinger, and Eva Seibert received their State Degrees, and Pam Johnson represented the chapter in the Award of Merit ceremony. Voting delegates were Kathy Rogers, Patsy Bashor, Deb Calvin, and Ruth Willitzer. A total of fourteen students participated in the convention. At the May meet¬ ing the new officers were initiated and eighteen girls received their Junior degrees. Six other girls received their chapter degrees. They were 2-2 in the league, losing to league-champ Hicksville and a much improved Edon club. The Apaches started the season with impressive victories over W ayne Trace and Antwerp. Edon then pinned a defeat on the Apaches. Fairview bounced back to soundly defeat Evergreen in the Homecoming game. Mistakes began to plague the Apache tribe as they lost to Springfield, Hicks¬ ville and Patrick Henry. The Apaches then shot down the high-flying Hilltop Cadets for the final victory of the sea¬ son. Bryan downed all hopes of a winning season by hand¬ ing the Apaches their final defeat of the season. Despite having a losing season, Fairview ' s offensive average was 22 points per game while the defense held opponents to 18. 5 points per game. Fairview Superstars Is that a four-leaf clover? This was good enough for a third place finish in the Green Meadows Conference. The top 10 run¬ ners for the Apache Harriers were Denny Sims, Denny Haller, Dewey Foust, Dave Rieke, Curt Miller, Terry Debree, Larry Winright, Jim Ross, Ken Karnes and Lenny Johns. Denny Sims did a fine job for the Apaches this season. He worked hard and put in extra time and effort on his own. The hard work paid off when he placed in the sectional. This qualified him for the District meet. There he placed 54th, not quite good enough to qualify for State competition. The outlook for the future is bright. Only three men will be lost from this year’s team and we will have some good, strong runners returning. Let ' s hope that next year we can bring the first place trophy to Fairview. The Apache cindermen had their best season in five years with a young, but competitive team. The squad was led by two seniors who will be impossible to replace in the next few years. Chuck Farr was always in the money in the pole vault and Tom Hubbard did every¬ thing except carry the water bucket. The juniors represented their class well with premier sprinter Rick Singer; high jumper Randy Wright; long jumper Rick Grimes; and all purpose man Dewey Foust. The sophomores were in full force, and the future looks bright. The freshmen, although a bit green, show much potential that will be noticed in time. Trackmen, like fine wine, have to be nurtured along and improve vastly with age and experience. Track Power FRONT ROW: Dewey Foust, Rick Grimes, Mark Rhodes, Rick Singer. SECOND ROW: Dan Olds, Terry Masser, Bob Culler, Randy Wright, Curt Miller, Denny Haller, Randy Ordway, Paul Brown, Chuck Farr. BACK ROW: Nancy Unger, Jim Schaffer, Jim Wright, Todd Forrest, Dave Elliot, Larry Rice, Chris Mack Dave Krohn, Brian Keegan, Loretta Sonner. 120 Terry Masser, one of Fv ' s best discus throwers, doing his thing.
