The rest of the boys appeared lost and bewildered for the first half of the season as they lost seven of their first eight games. The biggest problem at the time was the lack of an offensive attack. No one on the team would take the initiative to consistently attack the basket. By midseason, the boys began to gain confidence in their offensive abilities. The play of guard Brent Maugel and Gary Crites, in particular, was vastly improved. The Apaches won a thriller from Bryan on a last second shot by Maugel. They then lost a heartbreaker to Ayersville before winning their last four games to finish the season with a 7-11 record. Crites was the leading scorer for the season with 121 points. Maugel was second with 112, and Steve Roberts was third with 102. Gerald Hanna led in the rebounds with 184.
