Fairview During the past school year the Apache Band launched itself into the first full football season and expanded its range of activities to include halftime performances on the Fairview gridiron and the Defi¬ ance College. In January the band was invited to perform at Hicksville and Antwerp and carried the reputation of our fine music department to these neighboring schools. Due to the lengthy football season, a Winter Concert was presented for the first time and proved to be very popular. Another first for the Apache Band was the Excellent rating earned at contests at the University of Toledo; it was the 62 highest Fairview has ever received since the school consolidation. The Spring Concert brought the con¬ cert season to a close with a rock beat and a rousing applause for one of the finest concerts to ever be pre¬ sented on our stage. The many other activities of the band, its dis¬ tinguished performances, and the exceptional support of the program by the school, the community, and the Music Boosters are evidence that an abundance of pride is present for this organization that does so much for the benefit of the students and community.

The Varsity Club is for any young man winning a varsity letter. The purpose is to promote athletics and sportsmanship with assistance from the administration and the community. The club project was t o buy individual and team trophies for deserving Fairview athletes which will be presented at the Boosters All-Sports Banquet. A project for the future will be to help lower the cost of sending the cheerleaders to summer camp. In the past the Varsity Club has met very little and sponsored very little, but it is hoped that in the future the organization will be more meaningful. By buying sweaters or special jackets, holding initiations, meeting in the evenings, holding swimming and skating parties with dates and charging dues to the club, it is hoped to instill more interest and meaning to the Varsity Club. 61
