At the beginning of the year, new French, Latin, and Spanish members ' were sold to older members at a Roman Slave Auction. Each slave had to speak in his foreign tongue and display his talents. The slaves went to the highest bidders and were in bondage for twenty-four hours. Mr. Wagler shared with the club his experiences in Greece, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Yugoslavia. The Club observed the culture of peo¬ ple living abroad and became aware of the existing contrasts and barriers. In April the club hiked to the park and enjoyed a picnic in celebration of a year completed and the development of a better understanding of the people that make the world. Our hope is that in the future all social barriers may be dis¬ solved and that peace and understanding may become realities. 59
