Silhouettes From . . Fairview High School Fairview, Oklahoma Volume II Published by the Jacket Staff TABLE OF CONTENTS Administration----------------- —7 Sports-------------------- — -13 Student Life - -- -- -- -- - 27 Superlatives------------------- 51 Classes 59 3 Silhouettes Reflect Influence of Others An infinite number of faces travel through life, reflecting the influence of others. The confident arch of the classleader's brow, the carefully composed shadows of a girl's eye, and the tight and silent lips of the un- involved student are a part of the catalogue of faces of Fairview High School. Over the clamor and confusion in the gym, halls, and classrooms, three hundred students play the Hi game with old friends and acquaint- ances. Personalities vary as the inflection of the greeting. Even the seem- ing uniformity produced by a person's particular friends is not enough to damage his own individuality; easy as it is to grow into a group, it is just as easy to grow into another. Such an individual knows friends and re- mains oblivious to the structure, which within a few years after graduation is nonexistent. Only the people remain when 1971 is just a silhouette of the mind. Cindy Schoeppel Victory again for the Jackets! Coach Chester Ritz Don't cry Renita! It's only a balloon. 4 Cheerleaders raise victory spirit. Mike tries luck in chorus beancount. Kathy concentrates on bucket despite opponents. DANNY and CREW hard at work. F Club is undecided on choice for queen candidate. 5 Dedication There is a certainty in this man Who is unafraid to share himself with others, Unafraid to become involved in the Candid life of a student. He reveals to us his job of bus-driving Is not merely a job, but a way of teaching Students to approach Life's problems with a smile. We admire the way he faces the road With determination, And for this he has our confidence. To him we dedicate this book In an attempt to return some of the respect That he first gave to us. Jack Frazier 6 7 A DMINISTRA TION Office Activity Formed Main Operational Focus DON FRIESEN, Principal of the Grade School. MAX MOYERS, Principal of Fairview High School. Center of activity, the three school principals and their staff met the demands of a society of approximately 795 students and an increasing number of faculty members. Coordinating the functions of the schools with those of the community, coping with com- mon and crucial problems and supervising every school function are part of the burdens carried by Mr. Moyers, Mr. Friesen, and Mr. Bentley. 8 MAX BENTLEY, Principal of Chamberlain School. Administration: Management and Service Oriented MR. HARRY CAVETT, Fairview Schools Superintendent. Busy citizens who comprise Fairview's School Board work closely with Superintendent Harry R. Cavett in formulating and carrying out school policies. The school board sets a definite high standard for the students of FHS as they rule on important matters such as teacher's salaries and conflicts concerning members of the student body. Superintendent Harry Cavett, President Max Jordan, Bob Smith, Jack Day, Vice-President Don Elwell, Clerk Alden Glasgow. 9 Independent Thinking Is Encouraged In predictable classroom situations, we again experience the anxiety between finals and grade cards, again filed trivia with pro- found concepts, and again discovered person- alities lurking in the sheep's clothing of teach- ers. But teachers could not transmit know- ledge to any student unless he desired it, and no class was broad enough to contain the limits of knowledge that might conceivably be sought. Under the leadership of Mr. Floyd Pharis, the staff custodians keep the schools in clean working order and good repair. Working before and after school, the cooks apply their knowledge from culi- nary arts school in planning and serving nutritious meals to students and faculty members. With six women under her guidance, Mrs. Stella Warkentine tests her skill and patience daily as she pre- pares hot balanced meals for students and faculty. The team, playing under the sha- dow of previous seasons, pulled out with a 4-6 season re- cord. Under the directions of quarterbacks, Danny Willits, and Bill Rowe, and the running abilities of Gary Wright, the Jackets were able to rake up a total of 2,392 yards gained and score 143 points. In the all important defense department, Ken Cottrill made 26 unassested tackles and 77 assists to rate as top defensive man. The team finished the year with a trip to the O.U.- O.S.U. football game, sponsored by the Fairview Booster Club. Bill Rowe confers with Coach Ritz about a crucial play. STUDENT COUNCIL OFFICERS for the year were Dee Rippe toe, Treasurer; Vickie Williams, Secretary; Lyle Nickel, Vice-President; and Jerry Robison, President. The Student Council functioned in many capacities for the benefit of the whole student body. President Jerry Robison guided the coun- cil through the production of a new and dif- ferent homecoming. Existing as a represent- ative body binding administration and students, it encouraged student participation in activi- ties. For participation, the Student Council sponsored the annual Christmas Party, national assemblies, and several dress-up days. In spite of the successes one year has brought in the Council work, these always lead to plans for more effective efforts in the year ahead. That responsibility falls to officers elected for next year. Jerry kids around while leading an assembly. The staff, under the direction of Mrs. Burns, is composed of students who gather news, write and proofread copy, and type.
