The thought never occurs to some of us that a year has a point of view until, perhaps, we are seniors. This is true because, in re- ality, a year will have a dif- ferent meaning for each one of us. Yet no matter from what view- point we may see a ye u.r, there will always be memories of it to cherish for a lifetime. The annual staff of 1963 feels that the purpose of those who attend Fairview High School is to acquire self control and self re- liance, to be loyal and give strongest support at all times, and to co-operate with fellow-class- mates in student activities for the welfare of the school. Our wish is that all may pos- sess in tangible form a lasting record of the ideals, achieve- ments, and memories of Fair- view High School during the year 1963. Co-Editors, Shannon Suderman Colene McCue HI-LITES With the humidity and heat of late summer came the end to vaca- tions. The '63 Yellowjacket student body reluctantly exchanged swim- ming parties, suntans, an occasional class ring, and summer jobs for textbooks, band instruments, football shoes, and driving permits. Go! Fight! Win! , hotdogs, and late hours met the pep rallys, class, F-Club, and FFA parties which blew in on nippy autumn breezes. Fathers, Mothers, students, sweethearts and hopefuls shuffled through carpets of auburn, russet, and maize to attend football games, FFA meetings, Senior Play, Daddy Date Nite, and FHA meetings, while sleepyeyed band members boarded 6:00 A.M. buses for band trips. Homecoming always leaves favorite autumn memories of tears, happi- ness, dis-assembled floats and wilted mums. Brisk winter winds brought soft, dewy snowflakes, basketball games, sleigh rides, and parties, parties, parties. Cupid was at large during February when each FHA girl honored the man of her choice at the Sweetheart Banquet. The first shimmering buds of spring found.. . BOYS of all shapes and sizes doing cadence count to one, two, three, four; one, two, three, four, at the track field- JUNIORS being transformed into actors, actresses, stage managers, and business tycoons in preparation for their first production, the Junior Play, and working diligently on a theme and decorations for the banquet which they presented for the seniors-- SENIORS discussing their favorite topics: college placements, scholarships, announcements, and diplomas as they planned and eagerly awaited Sen- ior Skip Day, Class Night, Baccalaureate, and finally, Commencement. Memories and Hi-Lites from '62-'63 in FHS have found their places on bulletin boards, in scrapbooks, in students' hearts, and finally, with- in the covers of the '63 Yellowjacket. 3 The dedication of the an- nual has been a tradition for many years. It has been the pleasure of this year's Annual Staff and others of previous years to dedicate the annual to honored and de- serving members of the faculty. With these points clearly in mind, we feel we have made an excellent choice. To each of us the familiar, Clear the deck , or, If the shoe fits you, wear it , has become al- most essential to make school seem complete. Firmness, yet, patience, and understanding are among his finer traits. He has worked untiringly to help each and every member of the faculty as well as each member of the stud- ent body with their many problems. His leadership and personal guidance have become a challenge to all who associate with him . It is with great respect that we, the members of the Annual Staff, dedicate this yearbook of 1963 to Mr. Max K. Moyers. MR. MAX K. MOYERS Mr. Moyers is indeed one of the Yellowjackets avid This year Mr. Moyers participated with FHS students sports fans. in discussing school problems. 4 ADMINISTRATION The Fairview Board of Education is a group of tax- payers who are elected by the people of the district to represent them in matters concerning property maintenance and administration of the district's school. LEFT TO RIGHT: Clerk, Edwin Kliewer; Member, R. E. Graalman; President, W. U. Gaylord; Vice-President, Clyde Leonard; Mem- ber, Victor Warkentine. BOARD OF EDUCATION An attitude of authority and understanding are the noteworthy qualifications that have won our super- intendent, Mr. C. O. Lanman, the admiration and respect of students and faculty. In carrying out his duties, Mr. Max K. Moyers, a most capable principal, has labored diligently to bring numerous changes and improvements to this school's curriculum. 6 FACULTY MR. GENE MR. HIGH IDEALS BRING SATISFACTION It is said that an organization never rises above its leaders. We may apply this old, but true saying and give credit where it is due to the officers of the 1962-63 student council. They are Rita Ranson; Treasurer, Colene McCue; Secretary, Joe Jordan; Vice-President, and Jon Gard, President. 24 The student council is an organ- ization whose purpose is to promote the responsibility and happiness found in a democratic system. It functions through an executive board com- prised of four elected officers and three representatives of each upper class. The 1962-63 student council is under the efficient leadership of its president, Jon A. Gard. Among his duties as leading assemblies and making morn- ing announcements Jon A. has helped to make FHS a school which we can all be proud to be a part of.
