SENIOR CUSS HISTORY The year 1940 was an important one in history. Our future doctors, lawyers and merchants” began their career in Fairview. With 12 years attendance in Fairview Schools are: Pat Hallren, Larry Jensen, Marilyn Keck. Larrv Major. Paul and Robert Patz- kowsky, Dorothy Wahl, Beverly Wedel and Virgil Janzen. Our initial year of schooling was guided by Mrs. Chamberlain. Outstanding memories are playing in the Rhythm Band and having tea for our Mothers. Since our class was so interested in sports we made sure Mrs. Chamberlain kept accurate scores of all games. The following September found nearly the same people in their places in the second grade, but we were a little older, a little wiser and just as active as ever. At the end of the year the floors were badly worn in the corner for we spent much time there. Miss Eifert was our teacher. Under the instruction and supervision of Mrs. Wood- ring we passed a very enjoyable third year. We pre- sented the operetta Sunbonnet Sally and Overall Jim” and started studying geography this year. Shirley McNaught joined our class. We also recall a party of playing in the ravines and swinging on vines at David Martens. The fourth year Mrs. Conaway was our teacher. It was this year that everyone became interested in ' Hardy Boy” books and our sports-minded boys began their climb in basketball. The addition of bookreports and geography work- books was made in our busy schedule by our teacher. Mrs. Green. Most of us found ourselves spending much time in the halls, for we had not learned what activities were acceptable in the classroom. In the Sixth grade Miss Talbot. Mrs. Wylie and Mrs. Duckett taught us. This year we presented a hillbilly operetta and learned our eight parts of speech. With Mrs. MacQueen as our Seventh grade teacher, it was a big year for the girls, for our class made up the girls grade school basketball team. Some of the boys nearly witnessed the manipulation of the electric pad- dle when they disobeyed Mr. Logsdon and crawled over the school yard fence to attend the County Fair. Upon moving into the high school building we felt the power of our wisdom and tried to act quite digni- fied. We envied the high school students, for they went to different rooms for each class. We had to stay in one room. Our grade school basketball teams reached supreme glory this year. To add to our proudness we won the Annual Queen contest. Gary Just joined our class this year. Richard Sullivan. Connie Wedel, Shirley Buller, Donna Fae Campbell. Ray Lee Nickel, John Carroll and Mary Young attended grade school a few years, then left and returned as freshmen. Enrolling as freshmen in the fall of 1948, our class numbered 48 of the most proud and clever boys and girls to ever enter F. H. S. We were green as green could be but. as all green things thrive, we are still happy and alive. Of our present class Ilene Bierig, Maynard Bierig, Freda Canaday. Dwayne Epp, Mar- jorie Ewing. Gerald Flaming, Clarice Isaak. Cecil Kahn. June Koehn. David Mauldin. Sandra Reding. Shirley Schwalk. Glenn Suderman, Royce Taylor and James Warkentine joined us. It was this year that F. H. S. took State in Track, as we well remember. Our strong class spirit lead us to numerous victories, for we won the Annual, Football and F. F. A. Queen contests, with Shirley McNaught, Shirley (Sunder- land) Doane and Shirley Schwalk as successful candi- dates. Marilyn Keck became the band drum majorette. Our two class parties at the sand dunes with sponsors. Miss Hickman and Mr. Eubanks, were highly success- ful, for sliding down the hill and sand Fights were great fun. When the frost turned the leaves to a bright autumn color we again assembled here for our sophomore year but found our class enrollment had decreased some- what. Some of the boys earned their “F” letter and were initiated into the F Club . Second semester we moved to the new high school building. Our sponsors were Miss Milliner and Mr. Eubanks. Pleasant and Peppy! That was us in our junior year but we were ready for work and fun any time. The climax of the year was our visit to the Stork Club” for the Junior and Senior Banquet. We purchased new band uniforms and attended several festivals and con- tests. Miss Hollander and Mr. Keeney were our class sponsors. Our class play, Aunt Cathis’s Cat,” was very successfully presented with the help of our direc- tor, Mrs. Burns. Our Senior year is one long to be remembered by the entire class, not only for our school work but for the association of our friends, teachers and sponsors who helped us win success in the presentation of our play, “Papa Says No! We recall the hay-rack ride to Camp Saline for our class party and selection of commencement announce- ments. We owe to our sponsors, Mrs. Burns and Mr. Tay- lor, and the faculty a debt of gratitude because we know they made it possible for the many pleasant events which took place during our Senior year. We sincerely appreciate their efforts.
