HISTORY CLASSES Discovering The Past This year's history students placed them- selves in the year 1776 when the U.S. first became an independent nation. Members of Nlr. Alexander's classes rewrote the consti- tution in simpler terms, so the students could better understand its meanings. ln January, the constitution was sent to Pres- ident Ford, Congressman Wirth, and Senator Hart. Other history classes held debates on whether or not the U.S. should have gone to war with Great Britain in 1812. History classes gave students the chance to step back into the past and study the decisions that shaped our country. 1 -40 Peace and Goodwill, exclaims Randy Crooks. While students in the Political Parties classes listened to statewide candidates present their views on such issues as in- flation and the economy, other students in Intro classes discussed methods of saving money and managing a family in- come. Placing themselves in a family sit- uation, students learned hovv to plan a budget in today's world of high prices. A mock election was held this year af- ter several candidates campaigned in the D E school. Though a democratic win was predicted, students voted differently, and republicans vvon. L.
