The Cross Country team got off to a fast start as the year began. ln the only home meet ofthe season, Fairview's C.C. team beat Boulder High. The harriers then won a hard earned fifteenth place finish at the statewide meet in Pueblo. After tying with Longmont at the district meet, the two schools had a dual meet to de- cide the winner. Fairview's runners won the meet in a competitive run. The team then went on to the state meet, a first for Fairvievv's harriers. FHS Harriers Eddy Gorove and Hans Lichtfuss set the pace

Soaring with determination and grace Head Coach Terry Altenborg greeted about 80 participants for track this year. Of this field of 80 were such standouts as Steve Shoemaker, Kevin Bales, Mike Martin, Gregg Glass,and Chris Foote. Track and Field which has been called a sport of power and accuracy by many coaches, is perhaps the most grueling on the athlete as a whole. Being able to run the fastest, jump the high- est, throw the farthest, and push your body until it pushes no longer is all it takes to suc- ceed at this sport. In three years Altenborg has turned Fairview into a perennial power- house in the state. Mike Bergin sails over a low hurdle Mitch Call puts the shot during the Mapleton Invitational.
