Mt e .h'u'; whi'grxv'nw'zktx-i 31:15:, 1,, :amai'sf- j one ' gym 439:4; 44., 1? 53:? -A ' . -- To the Class of 1960 During the past twelve years, you have acquired some knowledge and developed a few skills. I am sure that each of you realize that this learning and development, commonly referred to as education, is a life-long process. This educational process however, should have a purpose and meaning for each of you. Formal education to some, means higher paying jobs; to others, social development; and to a few, merely the personal satisfaction of accomplishment. Disregard- ing the many reasons or purposes for education, I feel that the basic objective of education is the development of responsible citizens. A responsible citizen displays a Willingness to work for community, state, and national betterment. He is dissatisfied with wrongdoing, corruption, and back-sliding. He is an active member of occupational. social, and civic organizations. He exerts his leadership ability when able, and is an intelligent follower of leaders in community improve- ment. In short, he is constantly working for social, economic, and political improvements. At the present time, you are well on your way toward becomingr responsible Citizens. I urge you to continue growincr in and develop- C ing this basic objective of education: Responsible Citizenship. A. HEIN
