Yankee Chpper The Yankee Clipper Staff started out by sending packages of food to the local boys in service. Later, it decided to publish a paper called the Yankee Clipper. This paper furnishes the boys with news from home which they appreciate very much. Its finances are met by donations from clubs, individuals, and school organizations. News items and addresses of every Fairporter in the Armed Forces are gathered by the boys and girls of the school who volunteer to give their time for the success of the paper. The community and the boys in service are congratulating the staff for its fine work. YANKEE CLIPPER STAFF Editor-in-chief ,.,., T T .,,.. . ,Clayton Leathers Make-up editor .,,. Drum Majorette and Twirlers One of the enjoyable things about a football game is to see the drum majorette and the twirlers perform with the band. Their trim costumes and perfect rhythm and co-ordination add color to the evening. This year the number of twirlers was increased. In previous years, there have been only two girlsg but this football season there were six. Alberta Stuuri, the drum majorette, displayed great ability to lead on the field, and the clever routines which she developed and taught to the twirlers showed her originality. The girls did very well, and we wish to congratulate them on their fine work. Stamps and Bonds On October 25, l943, Harding High was presented with a stamp and bond flag. We are the second school in Lake County to receive such a flag, The flag means that we have had in our school 90 per cent or above participat- ing in buying stamps and bonds for the month. lt will continue to fly over our school only if we keep that 90 per cent buying. The war loan drive here was launch- ed by Ford Andrus, chairman for Lake County, in a chapel program at which he spoke. Every week a little speech is given over the public address system in an effort to bring in lOO per cent of the students and faculty to buy stamps. The rooms this year are rated on the basis of participation rather than on the amount they purchase. In this way the room with the least money will have the chance of being rated tops in participation. A Donald Blakeslee and a Roy Pauley Day were observed with, as a re' sult, pupils responding a hundred per cent in buying stamps and bonds. These two young men, Roy Pauley and Donald Blakes- lee, now serving in the Armed Forces, are former graduates of Harding High School. As it was last year, Mr. Winchell has charge of the drive, and representatives from each homeroom take care of distrib- uting the stamps purchased. They are do- ing a marvelous job and should be highly praised for the fine work they are doing. Harding High is rated among the top schools in the county in its stamp and bond purchases and it's chiefly because of these people's efforts. 36 l
