The Pep Club ln order to bring about unity in cheering during various sports events and rallies, the Pep Club was founded, Co-operation in cheering is very important in bolstering up the spirit of the teams. Without cheer-leaders, the cheering would cause only commotion and unruly noise. Thanks to the Cheerleaders, however, the football and basketball teams have been spirit- ually strengthened both her in Fairport and in out of town. This group is under the able supervision at R. Choral Club This year's choral club was directed by a new faculty adviser, Miss Edna dean. Our former director, Miss Helen McClaflin, left us last summer for Red Cross duty. l-ler job now is that of providing musical entertainment for the boys in service. Laurels to Miss McClaflinl As usual the choral club gave the final chapel program before school was recessed for the Christmas season. The program was exceptionally well done. Many of the favorite Christmas carols were sung by the audience as well as by the choral club. During this past year, the choral club had done extremely well under the new supervision of Miss Dean. 28

High School Ban The band has furnished entertainment throughout the year, but certainly its magnifi- cent performances during the football season tops its whole career. Our musicians thrilled the football fans by their variety of marches and formations as well as by their interpretations of well-known songs. However, after the season was over, the band played equally well on the stage. The marching band numbered sixty, with drum majorette, Alberta Stuuri, and twirl- ers, Eleanor Sabolik, Lois Ann Smith, Myrtlann Knuttinen, lrene Laszlo, Irene Rego, and Irene Zavore. g PERSONNEL CORNETS Ned Klumph Yolanda Vegso Billy Ahonen Joy Youppi Nick Moroz Olga Esterhay Tommy Cramer Betty Pillar James Marshall Juanita Steinback Betty Lepisto FRENCH HORNS Jean Burch Carol Keto Marion Peltomaa Martha Jane Hilston Celia Dye Peter Leczo TROMBONES Richard Lehtinen James Greig Edith Hilston Doris Klein Robert Armstrong Martin Luoma Neal Ahonen Francis Thomas Richard Lautanen BARITONES Bob Lee Olga Saluk Regina Wayner BASSES Raymond Holm Steve Pucsak Richard Bowen Frank Modic FLUTES AND PICCOLOS Jeannette Hilberg Nellie Holm Marilyn Mackey Phyllis Erkkila Phyllis Pohto OBOES Don McKeever Mildred Hakola ALTO CLARINETS Laura Peltoma Linda Pohto BASSOON Irene Laszlo sAss cuuzinsr Myrtlann Knuttinen CLARINETS Alberta Stuuri Arlene Hakojarvi Marilyn Pernoja Viola Wiemero Mary Troha Doris Pohto Shirley Burkhart Thelma Kiikka Ruth Petter Evelyn Toth Doris Wilson 30 CLARINETS Jeannette Sutch Jomarie lsackila Gloria Eddy Shirley Stokes Elma Kalliomaa Alice Marshall Betty Greig Ralph Saari George Kosman Greta Aho Donna Werronen Betty Reeves Lucille Hilberg SAXOPHONES Grace Esterhay Richard Miller Norma Lehtinen Mildred Wainio Alan Hilberg Eddie Tobias Carl Hilberg DRUMS Richard Roberts Dave Hakojarvi Judy Petrus Barbara Kulberg Louise Horacek
