Class History By Jean Armstrong l938lll Yes, that was the year we, as greenies, crossed the threshold of dear old Harding High. Smart, sophisticated, brilliant children we were -Ah, yes- What fun we had rushing around trying to act like the highly admired seniors, but definitely not succeeding. lt was a new and busy year for us all, and we certainly enjoyed it. During the eighth grade our days passed more smoothly, and we dropped out pet name Cgreeniesl. We were now looking forward to our freshman year when we could go to the spring hops. When the freshman year finally rolled around, we were all there waiting with open arms las one might say? to take it all in. We made out our schedules for the coming year, joined clubs, and really began to take part in the school's activities. At the spring hop we had a grand time dancing to the strains of an orchestra or a juke box. l'm sure nearly all of us sen- iors remember who was our big moment at our first dance. The sophomore year was the year of study and really digging in. lt wasn't really boring, but most of us were looking ahead for bigger things. As juniors we began the year by selling refreshments at the football games to finance the Junior and Senior Prom, which was held at the Madi- son Country Club. Although the prom wasn't until May, we were planning and dreaming about it at the beginning of the school term. Soft lights, soft music, the swishing of beautiful gowns, dancing with your favorite-that is something everyone of us will always remember as the years come and go. Our senior year was very eventful with graduation rings and pictures, the Harbor Light, dances, picnics, and the prom. At the beginning of the school term five of our classmates left to join the Armed Forces: Johnny Sivula, Star Stazzone, Delbert Pohto, Pete Fedak, and Bill Kelley. As graduation closes another chapter in our lives, we enter into a world of dif- ferent environment and many opportunities, each of us with a chance of making his life what he wants it to be. IO
