1938 1939 Season CHARDON TRAMPLED IN OPENER 24 I6 Coach Babson s fast Skuppers opened the Basketball season wuth a bang After gaununq an early lead the Skuppers smashed through to a 24 I6 vuctory Thus was a mere practuce game for the cagers to show Coach Babson theur remedual weaknesses MARINERS FALL BEFORE SKIPPERS ONSLAUGHT The Shore Champs crashed through the defense of Ashtabula Harbor to snatch the League s openung game at Faurport Captaun John Sutch grab bed scorung honors by runnung up eleven pounts The game ended wuth a score of 30 I8 FAIRPORT VICTORIOUS AT WILLOUGHBY Leadung by only fuve pounts at the half the Skuppers opened theur guns and gave the Rangers a 3l I5 bouncung Okue Wuemero and George Adams each dropped un eught pounts un thus second League game ALUMNI TAKE THRASHING 33 28 The Hardung Hugh boys snatched an early lead and managed to hold down the Alumnus fourth quarter rally lt was duffucult to preduct whether the l938 tutle holders or the I939 cagers would come out vuctoruous PANTHERS DEFEATED BY LAST MINUTE GOAL 23 22 At the half Faurport held a two pount lead over Ashtabula In the thurd peruod the Panthers launched a rally and drew ahead of the Skuppers Wuth less than a munute to play and Ashtabula leadung by one pount Weumero of Faurport sank a perfect shot from the muddle of the floor wunnung the game RAIDERS TROLJNCED BY SKIPPERS 32 I9 Paunesvulle and Faurport both undefeated came upon Mentor Hugh s floor determuned to wun The Red Rauders receuved a good start un the furst quarter but were ummeduately crushed by the Skupper s defense Captaun John Sutch agaun ran away wuth scorung honors and ten pounts CONNEAUT SWAMPED ON OWN FLOOR 30 I I In thus rough and tumble cage game the Trouans receuved only three fueld goals Repeatedly the Skuppers put the ball through the hoop to run up thus score Captaun Sutch and George Adams each sank eught pounts SKIPPERS SMASH GENEVA 35 22 The Eagles took a bad beatung on theur home floor by the Faurport fuve It wasn t untul the second quarter that the accurate puvot shots of Captaun Johnny Sutch and the long sulfers of Cy Szakacsu took effect Johnny and Cy each scored twelve pounts HARBOR WALLOPED FOR THE SECOND TIME 44 30 The Skuppers went on a scorung rampage on the Maruners floor At the half the score board showed I9 I0 un Faurport s favor encouragung the Skuppers all the more By the end of the tussel Adams Wuemero and Sutch marked up twelve eleven and ten pounts respectuvely th ty - I . 1 - , 1 , . . . 1 - 11 - 11 V I - ., . . .
